SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,186, dated September lO, 1895A Application filed Pebruaiy 15, 1895. Serial No. 538,495.' (No model.)
,To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, CHARLES lV. PIERCE and CLARENCE S. Pinnen, citizens of the United States, residing at Union City, in the county of Randolph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Holders; and We do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Whi'ch it appcrtains to make and use'the saine.
Our invention relates to improvements in sash-holders; and the object of our invention is the provision of a device which will hold the sashes at any desired adjustment, which will be capable of spreading the meeting edges of the sashes for the purpose of admitting air to ventilato, which will be of attractive and ornamental appearance, and which in addition Will be of extremely simple and inexpensive construction and thoroughly eflicient and practical.
To attain the desired objects the invention consists of a sash-holder embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
In order that the details of our device and its operation may be understood and its numerous advantages be fully appreciated, we have illustrated in the accompanying drawings a sash holder or securer constructed according to our invention.
Figure l represent-s a front elevation of a window with sashes in position having our device applied. Fig. 2 represents a detail perspective view of a portion of the device, and Fig. 3 represents a vertical sectional view of the device applied.
In the drawings, A designates the Window frame or casing, B designates the lower sash,
and C represents the upper sash fitting and movable in the casing or frame. Cne of the side rails of said upper sash is provided on its front face with a beveled vertical channel or groove D, in which is adapted to lit the beveled stud or button or guide E, secured on the inner end of the screw F, passing through the upper end of the Wedge-shaped block or plate G, and the outer end of the screw is provided with a finger Wing or handle II for turning the screw. From this construction it will be Seen that the Wedge-block can be moved vertically in the channel of the sash and held at any position by simply causing the screw button or stud to bear upon the wall of the channel,.and that this action will also cause the Wedge to bind against the inner face of the lower sash and hold both sashes at any desired point in the frame. Vs-Then it is desired simply to allow the air to pass through the space at the meeting ends of the sashes, the Wedge is adjusted to spread the edges apart aud-make a'passage-Way for the entrance of air, and it will thus be seen that We provide a device which is thoroughly practical and useful and desirable for the intended purposes.
l/Ve claim- In a sash holder, the combination With the Sashes, of a Wedge shaped plate adjustably connected to one of the sashes, and a screw carried by the plate for holding the same at any place and causing the plate to wedge and hold the other sash.
In testimony whereof we ax our signatures in presence of two Witnesses;
