JOSEPH STEELE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OE ONETIIIRD TO ALBERT ALBRECHT, OF SAME PLACE.
CHlSEL CUTTER FOR SASH AND BLINDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 368,556, dated August 1'6. I887.
Application tiled October 12, 1886. Serial No. 215,988.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Beit known that I, JOSEPH STEELE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, and State of Cali- 5 fornia, have invented a new and useful Ohisel- Cutter for Sash and Blinds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to chisclcutters for setting shutter and door hinges, and has for character which shall be simple in its construction and effective in its operation.
The invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations ofparts, hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chiselcutter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan View. Fig. 4 isa longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 5 is an end elevation.
Referring to the drawings, Areprcsents the body of the chisel, and A a shank or handle preferably formed integral therewith. The body of the chisel has a tapering top drawn out at its front end to form a cutting-edge, a. De-
pending from the top of the chisel are sides Z, bent inwardly and downwardly, as at b.
13 represents a gage, which consists ofa strip its object the production of a device of this (No model.)
or plate having downwardly-extending ends 0. The plate of the gage is adapted to fit in a recess, I, on the upper face of the chisel, so as to be flush with the latter, and the ends 0 fit in grooves l in the sides of the chisel and are 5 adjustably held by means of screws G, which pass through slots 0 in said arms.
D represents a gage-frarne,whicli1 consists of parallel side bars, D, connected by an end bar,
at. Extending upwardly from the bars D are 0 slotted arms E, which fit in the grooves H in the sides of the chisel, and which are adjustably held in said grooves by screws F,so that the gage-frame D maybe raised and lowered as desired.
I claim- 1. The combination, with the chisel A,having the side and top grooves, of the gage B, adapted to fit in said grooves and adjustable to or from said top groove, substantially as de- 50 scribed.
2. The combination, with the chisel A, having the side grooves, of the gage-frame D, the slotted arms E, fitting in said grooves, and setscrews, substantially as described.
JOSEPH STEELE.
