COLLAPSIBLE LANDlNG-e-NET FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,023, dated September 10, 1895.
Application filed February 26, 1895.
To (1 whom, it mag concern:
Be it known that we, Aueusr F. MEIssEL- BACH and WILLIAM MEISSELBAOH, citizens of the United States, residing at Newark, in
5 the county of Essex and State of New Jersey,
have made certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Landing-Net Frames, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawto ings, forming a part of the same.
This invention consists in the specific construction herein shown and described for the fastening of the outer ends of the spring-bows of the net-frame.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a front view, Fig. 2 an edge view, and Fig. 3 a top view, of the frame in readiness for use. Fig. 4 is an edge view of the outer end of one of the bows in section at the center line, with a locking-plate applied thereto, and Fig. 5 aplan of the same with the said plate turned at right angles to its normal position, as indicated in the preceding figure. Figs. 6 and 7 are similar views of the outer end of the other of the handle suspended by its swiveled hook from the shank of a button, which latter is indicated in dotted lines. Figs. 4 to '7, inclusive, are drawn upon a larger scale than the 0 other figures. I
The bows a a are formed of flat strips of spring'steel, each having at its butt or inner end a hinge-plate b, secured thereto by means of the integral rivets 1", formed upon its outer 5 edge and inserted in suitable slots or apertures formed in the bow for the same with their ends upset upon the outer face of the bow. Such hinge-plates are pivoted by means of a pin 19 to opposite sides of apivot-block e, 40 formed with screw-shank c, screwed into a suitable threaded socket in the ferrule cl of the handle h. Both of the hinge-plates b are formed with seats 1) upon their outer edges, adjacent to the pivotal pin 19, at a suitable an- 4 5 gle with the butt ends of their respective bows,
so that when the ferrule d is screwed upon the shank c and firmly seated against the samethe bows will be normally spread apart, as described in our former patent.
In order to secure the outer ends of, the
bows together to produce the required oval Serial No. 539,722. (No model.)
shape for the frame, the how a is provided near the end and upon its outer face with two shouldered rivets, formed each with a head at, preferably of hooked form, as indicated in the drawings, anduwith shank n, the contracted portion of the latter being inserted in a suitable slot in the bow and its end upset upon the inner face of the bow, and the outer end of the bow a is provided with apertures or slots 0 to receive such rivet-heads,and with a catch-plate m, having stop-shoulders 'm, pivoted upon its outer face intermediate to such apertures by means of the pin g. The free ends of the bows being drawn together and the rivet-heads projected into their respective apertures while the catch-plate is in its transverse position, as illustrated in Fig. 5, the latter is then turned until its stop-shoulders 'm' engage the sides of the rivet-heads, as in Fig. 3, which eifects the locking of the heads n from retraction, and thus prevents their withdrawal by accident While the net is in use. The handle h is adapted for suspension from the shank s of the button .9 upon the clothing of the user by the hook q, secured to the handle h by means of an eye 25, bent up from a thin strip of metal formed with a stem passing through a suitable aperture in the head of the ferrule 6 upon the butt end of the do handle it and terminating in the divergent prongs 25, whereby the eye is swiveled to the ferrule.
Having thus set forth the invention, what We claim herein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a collapsible landing-net frame, the combination, with a handle h, of the bows a a having their butt ends secured to the said handle by suitable means and provided at 0 their outer ends, the one with one or more shouldered rivets having hooked heads, and the other With one or more slots to admit the heads of such rivets and with a catch platem pivoted upon its outer face adjacent to the 5 said slot or slots and engaging the shouldered rivets, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a collapsible landing-net frame, the combination, with a handle. h, of the bows a a having their butt ends secured to the said handle by suitable'means and provided at their outer ends, the one with one or more shouldered rivets having hooked heads, and our hands in the presence of two subscribing the other with one or more slots to admit the witnesses.
heads of such rivets and with a catch platem AUGUST F. MEISSELBAGH. having stop shoulders m pivoted upon its WILLIAM MEISSELBAOH. 5 outer face adjacent to the said slot or slots and engaging the shouldered rivets, substan- Vitnesses: tially as shown and described. I HENRY J. MILLER, In testimony whereof We have hereunto set WILLIAM BATSON.
