No. 644,259. Patented Aug. 6, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS J UNG, OF STUTTGART, GERMANY.
SCRUBBER.
- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,259, dated August 6, [895.
Appli at n fi d fieptember 27,1894. Serial No. 524,260. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JULIUS JUNG, of No. 18 Hastenbergstrasse, Stuttgart, in the Kingdom of Wiirtemberg, German Empire, have in vented a new and useful Improved Instrument for Cleaning lnlaid or Parquetted Floors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanyin g drawings.
- My invention relates to apparatus for cleanin g or brushing floors, and it has for its object to provide an instrument of simple construc tion by which inlaid flooring or parquetry may be readily and quickly cleaned or brushed without material effort or expenditure of power.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein-- Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating the apparatus in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the handle-bar andcleaning implement carried thereby. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the treadle-bar. Fig. st is: a sectional view showing the cup-like container for metal shavings, and Fig. 5 is a detail view showing the brush which is interchangeable with the metal-shaving container.
In the said drawings, the reference-letter A designates the apparatus, which consists of a handle-bar a, the lower end of which is forked to form two arms I), and at its upper end is provided with a handle 0. Between the arms b of the handle-bar ais arranged a spindle d, carrying a rotatable roller e, and the lower ends of said arms I) are provided with seats f, for the reception of pins m, carried by the metal-shavings container h and the brush 9. It is obvious that the said metal-shavings container and brush are interchangeable, the'one being substituted for the other, according to the nature of the work to be done. When the container h or brush 9 is adjusted in its place in the arms I), the said prongs are adapted to be compressed against the pins m to firmly secure the container or brush in place by means of a screw-bolt is passing through the arms b, and provided at its screw-threaded end with a thumb-nut i. 'The cup-like container is provided with studs or pins Z on its inner or concave surface forretaining the metal shavings and preventing the same from slipping.
The letter B designates a treadle-bar passed between the arms I) of the handle-bar a and rotating freely upon the roller e. At one end of the bar B is provided a treadle 0, which is adjustable thereon by means of a securingpin 10, which may be passed through any one of a series of perforations q in the treadlebar, as will be obvious. At its opposite end said treadle-bar B is provided with a ball 11.
In use the operation of the apparatus is as follows: The parts being in the described position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, in which case the metal-shavings container h or the brush g may be employed, the operator places his foot upon the treadle 0, and then by means of the handle 0 quickly moves the bar a, and consequently the metal-shavings container or brush, backward and forward rapidly, cleaning or brushing the floor.
What I claim is An instrument for cleaning or brushing floors, consisting of a handle-bar a forked at its lower end to provide arms I), a roller e carried by said arms, a cleaning or brushing im plement secured to said arms, and a treadlebar passing between the arms I) and resting freely upon the roller e, substantially as described.
Stuttgart, September 12, 1894.
