To all whom it may concern/.-

Be it known that I, EDWIN WATERS, of Amawalk,in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have inventeda new and Improved Brushing-Machine, of which the-following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved brushing machine, more especially designed for use in a bath room, and arranged to enable the user to conveniently rub, scrub and wipe dry, his back or other part of his body.'

. The invention consists of reciprocating brushes moving'in opposite directions, and faucets connected with the water supply and discharging onto the said brushes.

The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement with part in section. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same with part in section, and Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of part of the improvement, on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2.

The improved brushing machine is provided with a suitably constructed frame A, preferably provided with extension legs B, adapted to be fastened to the rim of the bath tub or other place. In the frame A are arranged two sets of vertically disposed guideways A on which are mounted to slide the slides O and O supporting at their front faces brushes D and D respectively, of any approved construction, preferably, however, curved inward and rearward at the bottom, as indicated in Fig.1.

It will be seen that the lever E is fulcrumed at its middle and engages the pins 0 and C on opposite sides of the fulcrum, so that the handle levers F and F stand in opposite directions, whereby the-operator in using the machine, has to move one lever handle up, while the other is moved down to impart a reciprocating motion to the slides O and C in opposite directions, so that one brush moves upward, while the other moves downward.

In using the machine, the operator adjusts the frame A, so as to bring the brushes to a height corresponding to the back of the person, and when the latter uses the machine, he

moves his back in close contact with the brushes, and then manipulates the handle levers F and F, to cause the brushesto move up and down, thereby scrubbing the back of the person. During this operation, streams of Water are supplied to the brushes from a suitable tank H, supported on top of the frame A and provided with faucetsI and I extending in alignment with the brushes D and D, so that when the faucets are open, water flows onto the brushes to assist in cleaning the operators back.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 7 1. In a brushing machine, the combination I of a frame having guideways, brushes mov' ably mounted in the respective guide-ways, said brushes being connected and adapted to move together and provided with means for simultaneously imparting thereto reciprocatory movement in opposite directions, substantially as set forth.

2. A brushing machine comprising a frame having vertically disposed guideways, slides fitted to slide in the said guide Ways and adapted to carry the brushes, a lever fulcrumed on the said frame and pivotally connected at opposite sides of its fulcrum with the said slides, and hand levers fulcrumed on the said frame and extending transversely to be taken hold of by the operator, substantially as shown and described.

In abrushing machine, the combination of a frame having guide-Ways, brushes movably mounted in the respective guide-Ways, a lever fulcrumed at its central part to the frame and coupled at opposite sides of its fulcrum to the respective brushes, whereby the same are caused to move in reverse directions when the lever is moved, and hand levers fulcrumed on the frame at opposite sides thereof with their free ends projecting beyond the front face of the frame at right angles thereto,

said levers being connected to the respective endsof said first mentioned lever, substantially as set forth.

4. In a brushing machine, the combination of a frame having guide-ways, brushes movably mounted in the guide-ways, a lever fulcrumed at its central part to the frame and coupled at opposite sides of said fulcrum to the respective brushes, whereby the same are caused to move simultaneously in reverse directions, and means for operating said lover, substantially as set forth.

5. In a brushing machine, the combination of a frame having guide-ways, brushes movably mounted in the respective guide-ways, a lever fulcrumed at its central part to the frame and coupled at opposite sides of said fulcrum to the respective brushes, whereby the same are caused to move simultaneously in reverse directions, means for operating said lever, and extension legs adj ustably mounted on the frame and adapted to be secured to the rim of a tub or the like, substantially as set forth.
