V. E. POPPENS. GOMMODE 0R SANITARY PAIL.
No. 543,402. Patented July 23, 1895.
- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
VALBORG EMMILIE POPPENS, OF NORTH MELBOURNE, VICTORIA.
COMMODE OR SANITARY PAIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,402, dated July 23, 1895.
Application filed October 6 1894.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VALBORG EMMILIE Por- PENS, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, and a'residcntof Meat Market Hotel, Victoria Street, North Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Commodes or Sanitary Pails and Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in' same letters throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved sanitary vessel, showing the annular seat-rin g in position and the bulb attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, showing the interior of the vessel and the brackets for supporting the seat-ring; and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the Vessel, as shown in Fig. 1.
M represents the body of the vessel, the same consisting of a pail of suitable construction made of wood or sheet-iron or any other f metal desired. This pail is provided on its interior and near its upper rim with a plur'ality of brackets, such as T, to support the annular ring B. These brackets may be riveted to the sides of the pail, as shown in Fig.
2, or they may be soldered thereto, asmay be desired. 7 When a wooden pail is used they should be riveted or bolted, but when a metal pail is used they may be either riveted or bolted or soldered to the sides of the pail. There should preferably be at least three of such brackets, in order that the hollow ring B may rest firinly and evenly upon them within the mount of the pail.
R represents the hollow annular seat-ring,
' which when in position in the pail rests upon and is supported by the brackets T. This hollow ring is provided-with an inlet-opening Serial in, 525,114. (No model.)
U, which maybe closed by means of ascrewcap, as shown, or by a stopper or any other suitable means. Through this opening U an antiseptic may be introduced into the hollow chamber within the annular ring R, where it is stored for use.
Q represents a collapsible bulb of ordinary construction, which is connected to the hollow chamber within the ring R by means of a flexible tube q. K is a tube leading from this hollow chamber within the said ring R to the interior of the pail M.
Vihen the hollow ring R contains antiseptic material, and it is desired to inject a portion of such materialinto the pail M, this may be done by compressing .the bulb Q, which the pail when the same is used as a chambervessel or commode, and the upper part of said seat-ring should project slightly above the upper rim of the pail, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. It will be seen that this seat-ring may be readily removed when for any reason it may be desired so to do, as for emptying the pail of its contents or for cleaning the same.
As only a small portion of the antiseptic material will be ejected from the hollow ring at any one time it will be evident that when the hollow ring R has been filled once it will not be necessary to refill it for a considerable time and that the material will be safely and conveniently held within the said ring.
It will be seen that I provide a cheap, neat, and exceedingly convenient and useful sanitary vessel or commode, the advantages of which will be apparent to any practical mind.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent of the United States, is-
In a sanitary vessel, the combination with the pail M provided with three or more brackets or supports such as T, for, the seat; of the 5 removable hollow annular seat ring R resting upon said brackets and projecting slightly above the upper rim of said pail; the said seat ring being provided with inlet opening U by means of which a disinfectant may be ICO introduced into the annular chamber within In witness whereof I have hereunto set my said ring, and abulb connected to the outside hand in the presence of two subscribing wit- I0 of said ring, and an outlet opening on the innesses. ner side of said ring, by means of which bulb 5 the disinfectant in the annular chamber VALBORG EMMILIE POPPENS' within said ring, may be discharged through WVitnesses: said outlet opening into said pail, substan- GEORGE P. TUNIS, tially as and for the purposes described. E. F. NIOHOLLS.
