ENVELOPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,120, dated July 23, 1895.
Application filed Eleptember 28, 1892- Renewed January '7 1895. Serial No. 533,7'74- (No model.)
T0 00% whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BACHER, of Santa Monica, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelope- Openers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in envelopes; and its object is to facilitate the opening of the same, which consists of a thread or wire placed in such a manner in regard to the envelope that the latter may be opened without unduly mutilating the same.
My invention more particularly resides in the novel combination, construction, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully specified,
and set forth in the claim. v
The accompanying drawing is an elevation of an ordinary envelope embodying the invention and showing the manner of opening the same.
A is an envelope of ordinary construction. B is a fine thread or wire which passes through the flap O at a point D, then extending along the inside of the envelope to a point E, thence through the flap and around the outer edge of same, when it passes beneath the flap, passing on'the inside to a point F near the opposite side of the envelope, When it passes through F and over the edge of the flap, re-
turning to and through hole D, Where the two ends of the thread meet and are secured to the flaps O by means of a label G. The label G, besides being adapted to secure the ends of the thread or wire B, also bears instruction in several languages as to the man ner of opening the envelope.
It will be readily seen from the foregoing description that I have supplied a means for quickly opening envelopes that does away with the annoyance of tearing off bit after bit of the edge of the envelope or the use of a knife.
I do not desire to confine myself to any particular form or size of the envelope to which my invention is applicable.
The construction and arrangement of the several parts of my invention being thus made known, the operation and advantages of the same will, it is thought, be readily understood.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with an envelope of a thread or Wire B, which is passed through the envelope at or about the center of the upper portion of the same and extended along inside of the envelope to a point near one end of the latter and upward through the flap and
