BASE FOR BARBERS CHAIRS.

lowing to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in chairs, and especially to that class designed to revolve--such as barbers, dentists, surgical, and other chairs; and the aim ofthe invention is to provide an irnproved base made up, preferably, of two portions of cast metal, the lower or door-engaging portion having a flanged bottom and a cylindrical upright body portion designed to receive in the top thereof the chair-holding post. This second section is cylindrical in shape and so constructed as to securely t into the aperture of the iioorengaging portion, means being provided for allowing a swivel movement to the post supporting the chair proper.

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a base for revolving or other chairs where a strong base vis required, composed of two cast cylindrical portions designed to be securely fastened together, one of the said portions being designed to receive the mandrel of the chair-seat, the otherhaving a flanged bottom strengthened by a series of brackets which are integral with the flange and the upright cylindrical portion.

To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists, further, in the novel construction, combination,- and adaptation of the parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then specifically deiinedin the appended claim.v

I clearly illustrate my'invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout both views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective viewof my invenf tion, a quarter-section being cut away to show parts in section. Fig. 2 is a detail View of an ornamental plate, which also serves as a strengthening-brace.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the floorengaging portion, which is integral with the upright cylindrical part B.

C C are brackets integrally cast and disposed between the upright portion B and the door-engaging iianged portion A and located at suitable intervals about the circumference of the said cylindrical portion.

D D are apertures designed to lessen the weight of the base.

The upper end of the portion B is perforated to receive the cylindrical section E, which has a shoulder F, adapted to snugly fit the aperture in the portion B, the flat surfaces of the adjacentends of the base-sections being flat and designed to contact outside of the shoulder and to be held together by means of the screws H.

Through the central portions of the upper and lower cross-pieces of thek cylinder E are the perforations K K, designed for receiving the mandrel of the seat of the chair, the flange of the said mandrel (not shown) being adapted to rest on the upper surface M of the section E.

Crcurnferentially arranged about the cylinder E is a series of ornamental plates N, which rest on shoulders of the portion E at fn., being securely held to the cylindrical portion by means of screws.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As an improved article of manufacture a base for chairs consisting of the portion B, having a flanged floor engaging portion A, the brackets C, the cylindrical portion E having a shoulder F designed to snugly iit an aperture in the upper end of the portion B, means for holding the two portions together, the mandrel receiving apertures K, K, and the strengthening plates N, all combined, substantially as shown and described.
