Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACKSON B. MILES, OE LINCOLNTON, ASSIGNOR OE ONE-IIALE TO THOMAS II. REMSEN, OF LINCOLN COUNTY, GEORGIA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,894, dated July 16, 1895.
Application filed September 17, 1894- Serial No, 523,255. (No model.)
To all whom it iota/y concern:
Be it known that I, JACKSON .13. MILES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lincolnton,in the county of Lincoln and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable. others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a side elevation of invention applied. Fig. 2 is a similar view of opposite side. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of foot-piece casting. Fig. at is a rear view of same.
This invention has relation to a certain new and useful improvement in plows, the object being to provide an improved foot-piece capable of being attached to the ordinary plowstock by means of a bolt and adapted to receive certain styles of plow-points, landsides, and moldboards.
In certain sections of the country the plow known under the trade-name of Dixie Boy is at present extensively used, a factor in its popularity being the form given its point, moldboard, and landside. Myimproved footpicce is especially designed for the attachment thereto of this Dixie Boy moldboard, point, and landside, whereby a person possessing the common plowstock may, by purchasing such forms of moldboard, point, and landside, with one of the foot-pieces can convert his old plow into one possessing substantially the utility of the make above named, thereby saving the expense of an entirely new outfit.
With this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates an ordinary plow-beam and B the standard thereof.
F designates my improved foot-piece, which consists of an integral block or casting of saddle form, having upon one side a triangular vertical flange, which is designed to seat the landside D of a plow, and upon the opposite side a curved flange, which is adapted to seat a moldboard E. The two flanges meet at the front to form the sharp angle or edge Z), which is inclined upwardly and rearwardly. The landside flange is rabbeted at its lower position to form a seat for the landside D. The moldboard-flange has a deep concave, as seen in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, and is inclined both laterally and downwardly.
C is a wing-point, which is bolted to the moldboard-flange, as indicated at c. A second bolt 0 secures the moldboard in place and also secures the foot-piece to the standard B, which fits against the slightly-convexed rear face fof the moldboard-flange. It will be observed that the said flange extends up sufficiently high to form an extended abutment for the moldboard. It will be observed that said foot-piece can be readily attached to various forms of stocks.
Having described my invention, what I claim is The herein described detachable foot piece for plows, comprising an integral block or casting of suitable form, having a triangular, vertical flange upon one side which is rabbeted at its lower portion to form a seat for a land side, and a mold board flange which is upwardly and rearwardly, and downwardly and laterally inclined, and formed with a deep concave, said flanges meeting at the front in a sharp, rearwardly inclined edge b,the under face of said mold board flange being convexed to form a seat for a plow standard, and a bolt seat through said flange which is designed to be in line with a corresponding seat of the standard, and also with a bolt seat of the mold board, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JACKSON B. MILES. Witnesses:
T. H. Human, J. M. OARTLEDGE.
