Description

.(No Model.)
I G. DEIMEL 8v A. FISCHER.
TICKET HOLDER.
Patented Jun 4, 1895 lawn T0125.
By QM 2 m: scams PETE UNITED STATES" PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVE DEIMEL AND ALBERT FISCHER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
TICKET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,610, dated June 4, 1895. I Application filed February 13, 1895. fierial No.' 538,781. (No model.)
Holders; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and.
use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders for cards, tickets,
- matches or stamps, and consists of the con- 7 our improved device.
struction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive-holder of this character in which a number of tickets may readily be placed, and from which said' tickets may be discharged, one at a time, the construction being such as to insure the delivery of but one ticket at each operation of the sliding feed and to indicate that the holder is empty when the last ticket shall have been discharged therefrom, which object is attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an enlarged perspective view of Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section through the holder. Fig. 3 is a central transverse section; and Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal section through the holder, showing the ticket-holdingdrawer projected from the case in position to be refilled.
Referring to the letters of reference, A designates the outer case which may be made of any suitable material and is preferably rectangular in form being closed at its sides and edges, and open at each end, the top thereof being provided with a longitudinal slot (1.
B designates the ticket holding drawer,
which is provided with a longitudinal slotted opening which extends through one end-of said drawer and in which is located a spring 0 the outer end of which extends slightly beyond the end of said drawer and is provided with a catch e, which, when said drawer is in proper position within the case A, will engage the end of said case as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, thereby locking the drawer therein.
I O designates the follower plate which lies within the drawer B and is provided on its under face with a curved spring I) which is adapted to raise said plate as the tickets are discharged from the holder so as to present each succeeding ticket in position to be engaged by the movable feed device, which, in its operation forces said tickets from the case.
The discharge end of the drawer B is cut away slightly on its upper edge, as shown at), which cut away portion is equal to the thickness of the tickets to be placed in the holder, so that when the drawer is placed within the case there will be formed a transverse slotted aperture between the under face of said case and said drawer through which the uppermost' ticket may be discharged, and before which each succeeding ticket is presented by the spring actuated followerO.
As will be seen in Figs. 2 and 4:, one end of the spring b bears upon the locking spring 0 thereby increasing the tension thereof, and assisting to hold itsv catch e in engagement with the end of the case.
The feed or ticket discharging device consists of a sliding head h which lies within the slot at in the top of the case and is provided with a vertical threaded stem 2' onto which is screwed an annular button D which extends on each side of the slot 0. and retains said head therein. Formed integral with said head, and extending rearwardly therefrom,is a narrow plate or arm m the free end of which is provided with a small hook or claw n which, when the button D is moved rearwardly to the limit of the slot a vwill engage the rear end of the uppermost ticket E, when, by sliding said button forward, the forward end of said ticket will be discharged from the case through the slotted aperture f, as shown in Fig. 1, and by dotted lines in Fig. 2. The projecting end of the ticket may then be grasped and drawn from the holder, and this operation repeated until all the tickets have been discharged, at which time the movement of the button rearwardly in the slot at will cause the hook 'n. of the arm mto engage the rear end of the follower plate 0 and lock the button D from sliding forward, which indicates that all the tickets have been discharged from the holder, when, by pressing slightly upward on the catch e, it will be disengaged from the case A and bya forward movement of the button D, the drawer B will be projected from the case, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, enabling said drawer to be refilled with tickets by simply depressing the plate 0 and sliding the tickets therein, when the drawer is shoved back into the case, and the catch 6 engaging the rear end thereof, locks the drawer therein in position for operation, as shown in Fig. 2. The rear end of the case is provided, on each side, with inwardly extending shoulders 0 which serve as stops to prevent the drawer from passingthrough the case when slid therein.
It is'essential that the drawer be locked to the case A while the tickets are being discharged, for the reason that the force sometimes required to discharge the ticket, would expel the drawer also if it were not locked to the case, and destroy the efficiency of the device.
The rear end of the drawer is provided with a rib or lug 8, against which the rear ends of the tickets lie and which serves to hold the ends of the tickets free from the end of the drawer so as to enable the hooked end of the arm on to engage behind them.
The device, as herein shown, is designed more expressly for holding street-car tickets, and by its use the tickets may be securely and conveniently carried and readily discharged one at a time, when desired. The device is, however, readily adaptable for holding cards, stamps or matches and without material change in the construction thereof.
Having thus fully set forth our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a ticket holder, the combination of the case open at each end and having a longitudinal slot in the top thereof, the ticketholding drawer adapted to slide within the case and havingan opening at the end through which the tickets may be discharged, the spring-actuated follower plate within the drawer for presenting the tickets successively before said opening, the spring catch mounted on the drawer and extending through the bottom thereof its outer end engaging said case, the movable feed device adapted to slide in said slot in the case to engage and expel the tickets successively and to engage said follower plate, when said tickets shall have been discharged.
2. In a ticket holder, the combination of the case having the open ends and provided at one end with a stop shoulder and in the top with a longitudinal slot, the ticket holding draweradapted to slide Within said case and havinga spring catch which extends through the bottom thereof and engages said case .to detachably lock the drawer thereto, said drawer also having a ticket discharge aperture, the follower plate within said drawer, the spring under said plate which bears upon said spring catch, the movable feed device mounted to slide in the slot in said case and consisting of the button having the hooked arm attached thereto which lies within said drawer and is adapted to engage the ends of said tickets, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
