GEORGE WASHINGTON WEEKLEY, OF PARKERSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA.
TICKET-HOLDER.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1d, 1917.
Application led May 8, 1916. Serial No. 96,156.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that GEORGE WV. WEEKLEY, citizen of the United States, residing at Parkersburg, in the county of Wood and State of West Virginia, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ticket- Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specication.
This invention relates to a card or ticket holder, such as for street Ycar tickets and the like, and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive magazine holder which will successively deliver tickets and cards.
A further object of the invention is to provide a magazine ticket holder which will successively deliverV tickets and cards without scratching and damaging the same, thus rendering the device particularly applicable to the handling of tickets or cards which are used over and over again.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction of the ticket holder and particularly in the construction and arrangement of ticket or card delivery mechanism.
Referring to the accompanying drawmg:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a magazine ticket holder constructed in accordance with this invention, the button post being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a vertical view taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view partly in section illustrating the position of the delivery mechanism while delivering a card or ticket.
Fig. 4 is a similar view illustrating the position of the delivery mechanism while the card or ticket is being withdrawn from the holder.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged transverse vertical sectional view illustrating position of the delivery mechanism while being returned to its normal initial position.
Fig. 6 is a similar view illustrating position of delivery mechanism while movmg in the direction to deliver a ticket.
Fig 7 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on line 7-7 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. S is a bottom plan View of the delivery mechanism.
Like numerals of reference indicate the same parts throughout the several figures in which:
1 indicates a magazine ticket holder, having the top 2 provided longitudinally with a channel 3 provided with a slot 4. 5 and 6 indicate the front and back and7 indi- Cates the sides. The front 5 is provided with a transverse slot 8 just under the top 2 through which slot the tickets or cards 9 are delivered successively from the holder. 10 indicates the bottom hinged at 11 and provided at its free end with catch 12 to engage the back 6 as shown in Fig. 2.
13 indicates light coil springs mounted on the bottom 10 and under the follower plate 14 so as to lightly hold the cards or tickets 9 in proper position for action of the delivery mechanism 15, which includes a thumb button 16 on a post 17 passing through a slot 18 in a plate 19 slidable on the channel 3 of the top 2; said post 17 passing through the slot t in the channel 3 and secured in the card or ticket delivering plate 20, which plate 20 is preferably provided with four depending prongs or tangs 21 having their 'rear surfaces inclined at 22 as shown in the drawing.
23 indicates the card or ticket protecting plate which as shown is secured to the outer plate 19 as by a rivet passing also through the slot 4 in the top 2 said card or ticket protecting plate 23 being provided with slots 25 through which the ticket engaging tangs or prongs 21 pass as shown in Fig. 6. As will appear from Fig. 5, the rear edges 26 of the slots 25 are so disposed with relation to the tangs or prongs 21 so that upon rearward movement of the thumb button 16, a relative movement between the tang carrying plate 20 and the ticket protecting plate 23 is e'ected which causes the inclined ends 22 of the tangs 21 to ride up over the edges 26 of slots 25 in said plate 23 so that rearward movement of the tangs 21 does not scratch or scar the ticket neXt to be delivered from the holder.
Having thus fully described the several parts of this invention, its operation is as follows:
The cards or tickets having been placed within the holder as shown and the delivery mechanism being in position shown in Figs. 2 and 6, the thumb button 16 is progressed forwardly in the slot e in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 6. The tangs or nprongs 2l engage the uppermost ticket and push the same through the delivery slot S in the front 5 into position shown in Fig. 8. The extended end 0f the ticket is then grasped by the hand of the party to whom the ticket is being issued and drawn from the holdenthe movement of the ticket relatively to the tangs or prongs 2l causes said tangs to raise as shown in Fig. Ll and permit the ticket to be freely withdrawn without causing the same to be scratched or scarred. To deliver thehneXt or succeeding ticket, the delivery mechanism is returned to position shown in Fig. 2 by retracting the thumb buttonl 16. The initial rearward movement ofthe button 16 in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 5, causes the tangs or prongs 21 to engage the edges 26 of the slots 25 and raise said tangs out of engagement with the face ofthe ticket, thus permitting the protecting plate 23 to slide freely over the face of the ticket without scratching or scarring the same.
By this arrangement cards or tickets can, where desired, be used over and over again without scratching or damaging the same.
Having thus fully described the invention it is apparent that the same is susceptible to changes in the construction and arrange- `ment Vof the parts and I consider myself I Copies of this patent may be obtained for clearly entitled to all such changes and modifications as fall within the limit and scope of the appended claims. i
What I claim as new and desire to secure `by Letters Patent of the United States is:
l. A' magazine card or ticket holder including a receptacle provided with a delivery opening, a delivery mechanism slidable relatively to the receptacle and including an extending element for manual engagement, a plate under said element, a protecting plate within the receptacle and connected to the lirst mentioned plate, a plate and ticket engaging members connected to said extending element for manual engagement, the same being slidable relatively to said protecting plate, said protecting plate being disposed in the path of retractive movement of the said ticket engaging members to raise said ticket engaging members relatively to said protecting plate.
2. A magazine card cr ticket holder, including a receptacle provided with a delivery opening, a delivery mechanism slidable relatively to the receptacle and including a projecting element for manual actuation, a protecting plate within the receptacle, a ticket engaging member connected to and slidable with said projecting element, the said protecting plate being disposed in the path of retractive movement of the said ticket engaging element to raise the ticket engaging element relatively to said protecting plate. In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
