JOHN N. BEALL, OF RAYMOND, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIRDS TO JOHN M. CRAWFORD AND GEORGE W. GROTTS, OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 0. 539,718, dated May 21, I895.
Application filed January 12, 1395. a Serial No. 534,609. on model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN N. BEALL, residing at Raymond, Montgomery county, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door Buffers and Stops, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to an improved form of bracket and clip, said clip adapted to be placed upon the-bottom part of a door or other body, and engage itself in a bracket fastened to the base board, (each piece being made of a single wire,) and possesses features of novelty hereinafter specifically pointed out.
Referring to the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure I'illustrates the bracket portion of my device, which carries the coil or spiral and which is adapted to be fastened to the base-board. Fig. 11 illustrates the clip portion adapted to be fastened to the door and which carries a catch to engage the coil or bar on the bracket. Fig. III illustrates a modified form of Fig. I. Fig. IV illustrates a modified form of Fig. II. Fig. Villustrates the two parts of the device in position,-showing how a door may be secured.
The same numbers refer to the same or similar parts throughout the several figures.
1 is the main shank formed with a screw on the end of the wire.
2 is a loop adapted to receive an ordinary screw or nail, which with 1, fastens the bracket to the base board.
3 is a coil or spiral formed by the wire, horizontal and at right angles to the main shank.
4 is a twist introduced to strengthen the device, but leaving a space between it and coil 3, and 5 is a hook at the other end of the wire to fasten about'the main shank.
6. 6 are loops at each end of the wire forming the catch or-clip, said loops being adapted to receive screws or nails to secure the part to the door.
7. 7. are spring coils in the wire, and 8. 8'are' shoulders formed on a prong at the center of bracket.
9 represents the door, and 10 the base board.
Fig. III illustrates a modified form of bracket in which the coil 3 is replaced by a rubber or other cylinder. -1 i Fig. IV illustrates a modified form of the clip or catch, made of cast or other metal, instead of wire.
I prefer to make the device of steel wire, and in the manner shown in Figs. I and II. The two parts are placed in position as shown in Fig. V upon a level that willengage coil 3 over prongs 8, as represented. When the door is opened the coil slides up the bend in the center of the clip in front of prongs 8 and then down behind said prongs, securing the door in the desired position, and serving as a stop to prevent the moving of the door.
7 While Ihave shown and described the device as arranged with the bracket part socured to the base board and clip part secured to the door, it is evident that the parts may be reversed, and either part placed anywhere on the door, and the other-part fastened coincident with it on the wall.
I claim as my invention- 1. In an improved door stop, the combination of a bracket having a coiled head 3 and formed of a single piece of wire, with a clip provided with a shoulder adapted to engage the head 3, substantially as and for the'purpose set forth.
2. In an improved door stop, the combination of a bracket having an open head and with ascrew and vertical part on said bracket to secure it to the door, and a clip having shoulders adapted to engage the open head of said bracket, substantially as described.
3. In an improved door stop, the'combination of a bracket made of a single wire, and having an open front, carrying coil 3; and a clip made of a single wire and having coil springs 7.. 7, and shoulders 8. 8, adapted to engage said bracket, substantially as described.
J. N. BEALL.
In presence of A. 0. BROWN, STANLEY STONER.
