Description

J. S. LASH. Bracket-Hook.
No... 22-85652. Patented June WITNESSES: [NI/ENTOR W 4/, %ATTORA EY N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITAOGRVAPHER; WASHINGTON I) C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN S. LASH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BRACKET-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,652, dated June 8, 1880.
Application filed November 29, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. LASH, ofPhiladelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bracket- Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of a modification of the same; and Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are detail views, showing different configurations for the base of the bracket.
My invention has for its object to simplify the manufacture, reduce the cost, and increase the durability of that class of bracket-hooks which are employed for hanging bird-cages, flower-baskets, and like articles, and which usually consist of a cast-iron base with a projecting wrought-iron arm or hook.
My invention consists in making the entire article of a single piece of wire so bent as to form the base-brace and projecting arm, as well as the eye whereby it is hung upon a nail or screw inserted in the wall, window-frame, or other fixture.
Referring to the annexed drawings, A indicates a piece of wire, which is bent to form an eye, a, proceeding thence outwardly a considerable distance, where it is again bent downwardly and doubled upon itself to form a hook, a, proceeding thence downwardly at an incline, forming a brace, until it reaches a point in line with the eye a, when it is coiled to form a volute, a proceeding thence upwardly to its starting-point, where it fastens by a loop, a which binds against the head of the with bird-cages, so much of the wire as forms U the base may be coiled to form a spiral, the center of which shall project out from the plane ofthe surrounding coils, as shown in Fig. 2. The brace a is thereby permitted endwise movement, the base forming a spring which will yield and expand by the imposition and release of weight due to the movement of a bird in the cage hung on the hook a.
I'Vhile the spiral or volute form is that which I prefer for the base, my invention is not limited thereto, and any other appropriate design may be substituted therefor.
I claim A bracket-hook the projecting arm-brace and base of which are formed of a single piece of wire bent into shape, the brace part a being formed with a suitable spring, a substantially as shown and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of October, 1879.
