JAMES W. HILL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF THIRTEEN- EIGHTEENTHS vTO 'WILLIAMQO. STEWART, CHARLES FREDERICK, AND ELMER O. PANCAKE, OF SAME PLACE.
FILE CABlNET.
QPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters latent No. 539,004, dated May 7, 1895. Application filed September 4, 1894- gerial No. 522,105. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES W. HILL, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in File-Cabinets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described and pointed v out in the claims.
Figure I is a front elevation of my improved file-cabinet having pockets and boxes located on the pockets within its pigeon-holes. Fig. II is a horizontal section taken on line II II, Fig. I. Fig. III is a perspective view of one of the coupon-receiving boxes. Fig. IV is a perspective View of one of the billslip-receiving pockets. Fig. V is a vertical section through one of the coupon-receiving boxes and shows'a board and a filing-needle located therein.
9 represents my improved file cabinet, which is divided, by horizontal division boards 10 and vertical division boards 10*, into a plurality of pigeon holes or sections. In the pigeon holes, boxes 11 and pockets 12 are located, the boxes 11 being mounted on top of the pockets 12, and both boxes and pockets are capable of easy removal from the cabinet. The boxes 11 are provided for the reception of the coupons when received by the merchant, and are numbered to correspond with the books issued by the merchant, and the pockets 12, located in the same pigeon hole or section, partake of the same number and are provided for the reception of the bill slips, or any other memoranda, until such time as the bill for the ordered goods is settled when they are removed from the pockets 12 and receipted and delivered to the customer. The
stubs are placed on a needle 13 secured to a board 14, see Fig. V, where they remain until such time as it may be desired to remove them.
The boxes 11 are numbered, as shown, with the numbers terminating in similar figures arranged in vertical line, in order to provide a ready means of locating the number of a boxe as for instance, suppose the merchant to have received a coupon from the customer holding book No. 23. He will know that the box will be found in the column of boxes headed by the figure 3 and can readily place his handon the box without searching over the cabinet to .find the number desired.
I claim as my invention- 1. A file-cabinet constructed with horizontal and vertical division boards forming vertical and horizontal series of pigeon-holes, and having located in each pigeon-hole a pocket and a box located on each pocket; substantially as described.
2. A file cabinet constructed with horizontal and'vertical di vision=boards forming vertical and horizontal series of pigeon-holes, and having located in each pigeon-hole a pocket, and a box located on each pocket, the verti cal series of boxes being numbered in sets of ten from left to right so as to bring similar unit numbers in vertical line; substantially as described.
3. A file cabinet constructed with horizontal and vertical division boards forming vertical and horizontal series of pigeon-holes, and having located in each pigeon-hole a pocket, and a box containing a board having a filing needle and located on the pocket; substantially as described.
JAMES W. HILL.
In presence of- E. S. KNIGHT, O. G. EDWARDS.
