SPECIFICATION forming .part of Letters Iatent No. 537,716, dated April 16, 1895.

Be it known that I, TIMOTHY. A. RnMsnN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Plumb Rule and Level Combined, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a tool for the use of mechanics and others comprising a plumb rule and level combined and consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a front view partly in section embodying my invention Fig. 2 represents a front view; Fig. 3,a top view thereof Fig.4, a view of the plumb level-detached and enlarged. The letter A designates the body of the tool which may be of wood or any other suitable material, but I prefer to make it of a piece of Wood about four feet long and of suitable thickness to permit a longitudinal channel or way B formed therein, in its side, and to extend for approximately one third of its length of the body portion and which opening is substantially oblong in cross section. In the channel or way B I pivot a rigid arm forminga pendulum O bya pivotD with its upper end formed into a point E while its lower portion is provided with a bob F, which pendulum is so adjusted in the channel B that when the point E registers'with the center point G in the view opening H, the wall or other object against which it is placed is plumb or straight.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-'- In a combined level and plumb the combination with the casing A, provided with a longitudinal rectangular recess B and an opening II communicating therewith at its upper end, a weighted arm pivoted near its lower end within the recess B, its upper end projecting across the opening H, a rectangular recess J below the recess B, and at right anglee thereto, having located therein a metallic level bar, the doors L, M,hinged to the casing for the purpose specified.
