Be tknown that I, WILLIAM PEAECE, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of 52 Hylton Street, in the city of Birmingham, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle Stoppers and Mounts, of which the following is a specitication.

My invention relates to improvements in connection with bottle mounts and bottle stoppers, and more particularly referring to such bottles that are used for smelling salts or other liquids or substances when it is desirable that the said stopper shall be secured in its place by an external mount or other device.

The object of this my invention is to combine with the usual stopper, or such other suitable stopper, a part rotating locking device of the construction and arrangement as hereinafter described. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accoman inv drawin s in whichy D i Figure 1, shows an external view of my invention. Fig. 2, is a plan view of my invention with the stopper knob removed. Fig. 3, is a sectional view of the invention on line A-B. Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7, are detailed views of some of the mechanical parts employed in this my invention. Fig. 8, is a detached view of the stopper.

Similar numbers refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

11 is the stopper fitting thethroat 12 of the bott-le, and having the terminal knob or handle 13, and the neck 14. Upon the exterior of the neck of the bottle is fixed the mount 15, having the upper plate 16, secured thereto. Upon this plate are carried a number of plates 17, which are movably jointed at 18. At the other ends of these plates are projecting pegs or studs 19. I now provide the part rotative plate 20, having the slot holes 21, corresponding in number to the number of pegs 19. This plate 20, is now soldered within the outer collar 22, and then placed in position upon the plate 17, the pegs 19, taking into the slots 21. The lower edge 23, of the collar is now turned over the projecting edge 24, of the plate 16, to prevent its removal see Fig. 3, but permitting a part rotative movement. By part rotati'ng the said collar the plates are simultaneously drawn across the central opening, as seen in Figs. 2 and 7, or drawn back underneath the collar as seen in Fig. 6. It will now be seen that when the stopper 1l, is in its place in the throat of the bottle (as seen in Fig. 3), by rotating the collar 22, the plates 17, are closed tightly around the neck 14 of the said stopper, and thereby eectually prevents its removal. By turning the collar 22, in lthe opposite direction the plates 17 are all withdrawn leaving the central portion quite clear and free for the removal of the stopper.

It will be readily seen that the shape and detail of the various parts may be considerably modified without departing fromthe nature of my invention.

I am aware that a moving diaphragm of this kind has already been used for mounts to cover or uncover certa-in openings and therefore I do not claim such mounts of themselves,
