0. T. DOUGHERTY. GAME TOY.
No. 536,193. Patented Mar. 26, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OWEN THOMAS DOUGHERTY, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
GAME TOY.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 536,193, dated March 26, 1895. Application filed May 8, 1894. Serial No. 510,452. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, OWEN THOMAS DOUGH- ERTY, a citizen of the United States, residing game toys.
The object of my device is to produce a toy which will furnishamusement, while also involving the practice of some skill.
The invention will first be described inconnection with the accompanying drawings and y then particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the'drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying my invention, in position for operation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same as it appears at the end ofthe operation. 25'
Referring to the drawings, A'is a standard having a bifurcated lowerportion, a, this standard being preferably made as a manikin, representing the figure of a man, the lower bifurcated portion being the legs of the manikin. In the forked portion, a, is fulcrumed a lever, B, having a plate, I), at one end, and a thumb-piece, b, at the other end, the lever being preferably fulcrumed by a pin passing through the two lower portions of the standard and through the lever, as will be understood from the drawings. The standard is secured to a base-piece, 0, preferably circular in general outline, with a projection, c, at the rear, the purpose of which will be'described' hereinafter.
D is a missile, preferably of lead and in the shape of a hat.
In using my device, the missile may be placed on the plate, I), of the lever, B. By then suddenly pressing down upon the thumbpiece, 12'", the missile will be thrown upward and toward the standard. The object of the game is to throw the missile on top of the standard. 7 In other words, if the standard be in the shape of a man, and the missile in the shape of a hat, the object is to put the hat on the head of the figure, bya jerk on the lever. The game may bemoditied by placing the missile on the projection, c, of the base-piece, O, and then, by a suitable movement of the base-piece in the hands of the player, jerking the hat on top of the head of the figure.
I One-very amusing way of playing the game is to have several persons divided into two parties, each party playing as an antagonist of the other party, and each player provided with a toy device of the kind just described, the object of the game being to see which party can first place all the hats on all the heads of their respective devices.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a game toy, the combination, with a standard, and a lever pivoted to the standard, of a'missile arranged to fit over the top of the standard, and capable of resting on the lever, substantially as set forth.
2. In a game toy, the combinatiomwith a standard having a lower bifurcated portion,
of a lever fulcrumed in the bifurcated portion of the standard, and a missile arranged to fit over the top end of the standard, substantially as set forth. V
3. In a game toy, the combination, with a base-piece having'a projection, a standard secured to the base piece and having a lower bifurcatedportion, of a lever fulcrumed in the bifurcated portion, said lever having a plate at one end and a thumb-piece at the other end, and a missile arranged to rest either on the projection of the base-piece or on the plate of the lever, and capable of fitting on' top of the standard, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
OWEN THOMAS DOUGHERTY.
