Description
H. HUNT.
Centrifugal Sugar Machine.
N0.- 53,448. Patented March 27, I866.
W/TA/ESSES. I Male/V7.0?
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO HARVEY HUNT, OF OSKALOOSA, IOWA..
IMPROVED CENTRIFUGAL MACHINE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,4A8, dated March 27, 1866.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY HUNT, of Oskaloosa, Mahaska county, State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sugar-Separators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification.
This is an improvement in the class of sugarseparators which act by projecting the sirup with arapid centrifugal motion against a rotating sieve or screen; and the invention consists in the provision of a conical deflector, which operates to project the sirup in horizontal lines against any desired part of the screen.
The accompanying drawing is a partiallysectionized perspective view of an apparatus embodying my invention.
A rapid] y-rotatin g vertical shaft, A, is surmounted by my conical deflector B, forming the elevated floor or bottom of a screen or colander, 0, of wire-gauze or perforated shee metal.
D is an annular vessel, called the receiver, into which the molasses escapes, and from which it is conducted off by means of a suitable spout, E.
A spout, F, may be employed to lead the granulated sirup into different parts of the deflector, or the sirup may be simply poured onto the deflector from a vessel held in the hand of the Operator.
In the common fiat-bottomed separator the great bulk of the work is thrown upon the lower meshes of the screen, which consequently soon become clogged and the apparatus ceases to be effective. \Vith my improvement the sirnp may be equally projected on every part of the screen, or even most against the upper part, if so desired.
I claim herein as new and of my invention The construction of a centrifugal sugar-separating screen with a conical fioor or deflector, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
HARVEY HUNT.
