Be it known that I, ELIJAH C. SEARS, of Cryst-al Lake, in the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Flour and Meal Sitter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilledin the art to make and use the same, vreterence being had to the accompanyin g drawings, forming a part of this specilication.
The present invention consistsin arranging within a suitable frame two sliding drawers or boxes, one above the other, the upper one of which has its bottom made of wire-gauze, netting, or other suitable material ordinarily used for tlour or meal sieves, and is so connected with a horizontal lever hung and turning upon a fulcruin of the said frame that by swinging the said lever to the right and left the said sieve will be made to travel forward and backward over the lower drawer o r box, thereby causing the meal or flour previously placed in such sieve to be thoroughly sifted into the drawer below, from which, first sliding the same out of the frame, it can be readily emptied or removed.
In accompanying plate of drawings my improved flour and meal sitter is illustrated, Figure l being a plan or top view, and Fig. 2 a central vertical section taken in the direction of its length.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A in the drawings represents the framing of the sieve, made of a square shape, with two drawers, B and C, placed direotlyabove each other and sliding upon suitable-arran ged cleatsa a, therefor. One of these drawers C, the upper one, has its bottom formed of wiregauze, netting, or other suitable perforated material ordinarily used for flour or meal sifters, in which drawers the flour or meal to be sifted is placed.
To the under side of the sieve-drawer and along its center, in the direction in which it slides in the frame, is secured a narrow strip of wood or other suitable material, D, having a notch, E, at or near one end, with which engages the inner end, G, of a lever, H, hung in in an opening, I, of the outside frame of the sifter, upon a fulcrum-pin, b, so as to swing or turn thereon in a horizontal plane.
L the handle of the lever H, projecting from the outside ofthe frame ofthe sifter, by moving The arrangement of the drawer C and the notched piece D, lever H, drawerB, and frame A, constructed and operating in the manner and for the purpose herein specified.
