' use the same, reference being bad to the ac- UA ITED STATES I EDGAR MARCELLUS OOSNER,
OF HALLS PEAK, TERRITORY OF NEW MEXICO.
WIRE STRETYCVHER AND CONNECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 533,946, dated February 12, 1895.
' Application filed April 7, 189 Serial No. 506,663- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR MARCELLUS OOSNER, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Halls Peak, in the county of Mora'and Territory of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire- Stretchers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and companying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The special object of the invention is to make a fence-wire stretcher which will also serve to connect wires as hereinafter described.
I Figure lot the drawings is a side-elevation perspective view of the connectors and wireends, and Fig. 6 a side-elevation, showing the lever used as a stretcher.
Inthe drawings, A represents the stretching lever, whose upper end is a straight hanstop a dle a and the lower end. a hook a, while in the middle is the bend 0. where is placed the stop a and near the lower end a shoulder B is the carrier consisting preferably of a metallic yoke plate whose ends are connected by a rivet on which turns a friction-roll b, so
that the carrier may slide between the stops a a with as little friction as possible. The yoke has a projecting pivot b bent over to work in a hole 0 of one of the connectors O, the latter being provided with a curved hook c on oneend and a slot-hook c on the other.
The curved end a of the lever A is bifurcated and provided with a cross-rivet on which is pivoted the end-curved arm D which passes through the hole 0 of the second connector which is tied detachably to this arm while the other is tied to the carrier, their curved hooks and slot-hooks being'arranged I fasten the free end of each in the slotted end of one of the connectors 0, then pull the lever Aforward to the right. This stretches the wires and causes the hooks c c to be brought together. The hooks, being in planes at right angles to each other, will readily engage, when they are detached from the carrier and lever to form the connection between the wires.
In order to stretch a wire, one hook E is connectedwith a post and the other with the end of the wire.
What I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, isv 1. The lever A having the handle 01., end slotted hook a, curve a and stops 0, 01. to adapt it to be used in the manner and for the purpose described.
2.. The lever A and connectors C 0 in combination with asliding carrier B, and arms D one connector being attached to the lever hook at by and D and the other to the carrier as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
F. E. FRANKLIN, BIRNEY S. COSNER.
