H. N]. DAVIES,
PIPE FASTENER. I Patented Feb. 12, 1895 WW6??? v @Homci UTHQ, WASHINGTON n a UNITED STATES:
PATENT OFFICE.
, HERBERT N. DAVIES, or EooK oED, WASHINGTON.
PlPE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 533,870, dated February 12, 1895.
- Application filed October 20, 1894:. Serial No. 526.509. {No model.)
Toull whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,-HERBERT N. DAVIES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rodi:- ford, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
.clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention relates to improvements in devices for securing and holding the ends ofstove-pipes infiues leading to the chimney of a house and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and effective device for this purpose, and one that is adapted to tit and hold any size of piping.
The invention consists of a strip of tin, sheet iron or other sheet metal, made with a loop for encircling the stove pipe and having a clamp thereon for adjusting the size of the loop to correspond with the size of the piping, and having an extension integral with the loop portion provided with a fiangefor fitting within the flue and holding said pipe in place.
All these parts except the clamp are made of I a single piece of sheet metal.
It also consists of other details of construe tion and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully set forth and described.
In the drawings forming a part of this.
specification, Figure 1 is a vertical central section of a section of pipe inserted in position in a flue, and showing my device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view of my fastener detached, showing the manner of forming the same from a single strip of sheet metal. Fig. 3 is a cross section of fastener showing my clamping device thereon.
Like letters of reference indicate like in the various views. 4
A represents the wall or ceiling of a room through an opening in which fits the stove pipe B made with an annular ridge b.
parts 0 represents my fastener, which as shown is made in one piece of sheet metal, having a looped portion or collar 0 adapted to encircle the pipe Band an extension 0' at right angles to the said loop or collar, adapted to fit within the wall or chimney, the said extension having a flangec at its inner end by which the said pipe is held-in place.
D is a clamp by which the size of the loop or collar may be regulated and adjusted. The same consists of a slotted piece of castor malleable iron encircling the collar 0, screw threaded in one face for the reception of a set screw. The two portions of the loop 0 pass between this clamp and may be secured at any desired relative position by means of the set screw therein.
E is a collar which fits around the pipe and up against the wall to make a complete finish, and hide the other parts just described.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I The herein described fastening device for pipes, which consists of a strip of sheet metal having a flange at one end for securing the pipe in place and bent at an angle at an intermediate point of its length to form a rightangular loop, the end of said looped portion overlapping the beginning thereof, and a clamping device encircling said overlapped portions for adjusting the size of said loop to correspond with the size of the pipe, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of twosubscribing witnesses.
' HERBERT N. DAVIES.
