I mr i l mw www UNITED STATES PATENT rrrcn.
FRANK O. GOODMAN, OF CLEVELAND, OIIIO.
FACE-STEAMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 533,588, dated February 5, 1895 Application tiled February 23, 1894-.. Serial No. 501,301. (No model.)
To all whom it may concer/ve.-
Be it known that I, FRANK C. GOODMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Face-Steamers, of which I hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in face steaming apparatus and the obj eots are to provide portable and easilyT accessible means for subjecting the face to a steam treatment for purifying and cleansing the skin and improving the complexion.
My invention consists in a light metallic mask adapted to lie supported over the face at a slight distance from the surface, space being leftfor the free circulation of hot vapor under the mask, and in means for providing an abundance of moist steam on short notice.
In the accompanying drawings Figure l is a vertical, sectional view ot' the mask and steamer. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the mask. Fig.3 shoyvs the method of application of the mask to the face.
In the drawings A is the mask stamped from sheet metal in approximate resemblance to the contour of the human face and perforated at the mouth, and nostrils at B. B. for breathing. The eyes may also be left uncovered if desired at O.
D is a thin wire netting supported at a slight distance from the mask as at a to prevent the face from coming into contact with the hot metal and to discharge superfluous moisture.
E is a steam inlet pipe which may be rubber perforated at e with numerous openings and branches so that the steam will find access to all parts of the mask and adjacent face.
F is a valve upon the steam inlet pipe by which the supply to the face is regulated.
G is a case provided 'with the steamer and water reservoir raised by the support g arranged to partially inclose the lamp H. in order to retain as much heat as possible.
The steamer is divided by the horizontal partition I into the steam generator T belowr and Water reservoir K above, the pointed valve L vertically supported upon the bearing M. and screw threaded at M Where it passes through said bearing is adapted to admit the water in small quantities to the steam generator through the aperture N for the purpose of making steam as rapidly as possible.
An elevated chamber O to which the nozzle o for the steam inlet pipe is secured is added to the generator to discharge superduous moisture.
A handle is added at P for portability. In using the apparatus a damp cloth is rst applied to the face and then the mask is firmly secured in position by rubber bands (in) or stringsAinserted in the perforations Rabcut the edge of the mask. A border of velvet or trilling is also advisable to prevent injury to the face from the sharp edges of the mask.
The advantages of the device are obvious in its extreme portability of the very small compass into which all the parts can be packed, and the easy and direct application of the hot vapor to the face.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isV
l. The mask provided with small perforations to carry ott the excess of moisture, and a lining of wire cloth which is slightly separated from the mask, substantially as described.
2. The mask, combined With a perforated lining which rests against the face, vbut is separated a slight distance from the mask, substantially as specied.
FRANK C. GOODMAN.
