ATTORNEYS Patented Sept. 26, 1950 BEAUTY PARLOR EQUIPMENT Wilhelm Melchior and Anton Kalina, Klagenfurt, Austria, assignors of twenty-five per cent to Rosa L. Rohrke, Sacramento, Calif.
Application September 7, 1948, Serial No. 48,086 In Austria December 2, 1947 1 Claim.
This invention is directed to, and itis an object to provide, a novel device for use in beauty parlors, or the like, to treat the hair.
Another object of the invention is to provide .a device for use to treat the hair to restore'its freshness and elasticity, especially after permanent waving of the hair or other treatment which may tend to make the hair dry, brittle, and dull.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device, as in the preceding paragraph, which is operative to steam the hair; the steam carrying with it"a vaporized oil which acts as the hair restorative. 7
An additional object of the invention is to embody, in the device, anovel system for vaporizing a solution, and then discharging the vapor,
while hot, onto apersons hair ina safe and effective manner.
Afurther object of the invention is to produce a practical and reliable hair treating device, and one which will be exceedingly effective for the purpose for, which it is designed.
These. objects are accomplished by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fullyappear by a perusal specification and claim.
In the drawings: r a Figure l isa sectional elevation of the device. Figure 2 is a sectional plan View of the. device on line' 22 of Fig. l.
Figure 3 is a cross section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Referring now more particularly to the charof the following acters of reference on the drawings, the device comprises a relatively large generally egg shaped hood or shell i having amouth 2 at the small end thereof; such mouth being bordered by a protective'bead 3 and adapted to engage over the hair portion of the head of a customer in a beauty parlor, or the like. The hood .i is supported from below by suitable means, such as a post l, which upstandsfrom a pedestal (not shown).
.2 V type. The coil I2 is fed with electricity by means of a cord 13 having a plug is on its outer end adapted to engage in a conventional electric outlet.
A feed pipe [5 extends from the top of the tank 8 upwardly and thence forwardly through the partition 5 and connects in the front chamber i with the top'central portion of a discharge manifold, indicated generally at 16. e
The discharge manifold It includes an arcuate transverse spray pipe ll supported centrally from, and in communication with, the feed pipe Longitudinal or forwardly projecting spray pipes it lead from the arcuate transverse spray .pipe ll along opposite sides of the front chamber 7, terminating adjacent but short of the mouth 2. The spray pipes ii and I8 are each formed with a row of orifices l9 arranged to discharge generally lnto'the central portion of the front chamber l.
When the'device is in use, a quantity of'a liquid solution 20, which may be a solution of Water and an oil type hair dressing, is placed in the tank 8 and the filler cap 9 closed. Thereafter, the plug [4 is engaged in an electric outlet causing the coil i2 to heat, which in turn raises the temperatureof the solution 20 to'boiling.
With boiling of the solution 20 in the tank 8, V
the resultant steam, carrying with it a vaporized quantity of the liquid hair dressing, feeds through pipe is into the manifold l6 and discharges from the orifices IQ of the spray pipes'i'l and it which comprise the manifold I6.
- The mouth 2 of, the hood I is, at this time,
engaged over the hair portion of the head of a customer, so that the heated vapor in the hood Adjacent, but short of its inner end, the hood a 7 is fitted with an internal partition 5, which divides the interior of said hood into a rear chamber 6 and a front chamber 1; the latter being open to the mouth 2.
A tank 8 is mounted on the partition 5 in the rear chamber 6, and at the top such tank includes a normally closed filler cap 9 accessible from exteriorly of the hood through a hand hole It therein.
Internally the tank 8 includes a relatively smaller water-tight case or housing H fitted therein with an electric coil 12 of the resistance l comes into direct contact with the hair to effectively treat the same. The vapor, carrying with it a portion of the liquid hair dressing, effectively treats the hair, restoring its freshness and elasticity. The treatment is especially beneficial following permanent waving, or other hair treatments, wherein there is tendency to cause the hair to become dull and brittle.
The device provides a very practical, elfective, and convenient means for the beneficial treatment of hair.
By reason of the fact that the tank 8, including the coil [2, is in a separat chamber, 1. e. to the rear of the partition 5, the device, when in use, is quite safe.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that there'has been produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the inven-- tion as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, the following is claimed as new and useful and upon which Letters Patent is desired:
A hair treating device comprising a hood open 16 at one end, a support connected with the bottom of the hood, a partition in the hood dividing the same internally into a front chamber and a rear chamber, the open end of the hood communicating with the front chamber, a liquid vaporizing unit mounted in the rear chamber, said unit including a tank mounted on the partition and an electric heater assembly in the tank in watertight relation thereto, the tank being provided with a filling opening therein, a cap removably mounted over the filling opening, the hood being provided with a cap access opening rearwardly of the partition and above the cap, a perforated V vapor discharge manifold in the front chamber,
and a pipe in communication with the interior REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
