Description

F. R. JUDD 81: G. NEWLAND.
BARREL TRUCK.
(No Model.)
No. 531,948. Patented Jan. l, 1895.
UNITED STATES EricE6 PATENT BARREL-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,948, dated January l, 1895.
Application died April 2, 1894.
To all whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that We, FRANK R. JUDD and GRANT NEWLAND, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Fonda, in the county of Pocahontas and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Barrel-Truck, ot' which the following is a speciiication.
Our object is to facilitate lifting and moving about barrels, when filled with liquid or solid matter, and our invention consists in a portable hand truck and a winch and taci;- ling combined therewith and adapted to be manually and advantageously operated as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in our claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing and perspective view of our complete device, in which- A represents the base of the truck composed of tube iron and mounted upon caster Wheels and adapted to be readily turned about and moved from place to place and also adapted to support a frame and the barrel lifting mechanism.
B is a post xed to the central part of the base A and C represents a trarne fixed to the base and the post in an inclined position to support a winch.
D represents a brace extending from the top of the post to the rear portion and closed part or" the base.
It is obvious that the base A can be made of wood and adapted in shape as shown to support the operative mechanism and to admit a barrel to be raised and lowered between the parallel sides and in the open end of the base A.
F represents a Winch mounted upon the inclined frame C and adapted to be operated by means of a ratchet wheel fiixed to the end of the drum, and a lever g pivoted to the Serial No. 506,120. (No model.)
axis of the drum and carrying a pawl to ena gage the ratchet wheel.
I is a rope fixed to the drum of the Winch and extended upward over a pulley H ccnnected with the top of the post B and from l thence downward over a pulley H2 connected with a movable frame or hoop J, adapted to encircle a barrel, and then upward again and doubled over the pulley H and returned and fastened to the pulley H2 as shown. ond tackling consisting of -a rope and pulleys is connected with vthe other side of the post B and the hoop J in suchainanner that when the truck is placed in position relative to a barrel as shown and the hoop .l placed on the barrel the barrel can be readily lifted by manually operating the winch and the truck and barrel then moved about at the pleasure of the operator. i
Having thus described the construction and operation of our invention, what We desire to claim by Letters Patent therefor is- A barrel truck, comprising a hase adapted to partially surround a barrel and mounted upon caster wheels, a post and frame fixed to the truck and adapted to support a winch, a winch mounted upon said frame, two ropes fixed to the drum of the winch, pulleys connected with the top and opposite sides of the post, a hoop adapted to encircle a barrel, pulleys connected with the hoop and the two ropes connected with the four pulleys, all arranged and combined to operate in the manner set forth for the purposes stated.
FRANK R. JUDD. GRANT NEWLAND.
