UNITED STATES DAVID FLETCHER HALLIBURTON, OF RUTHERFORD STATION, TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT. IN CAR-LOADERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,549, dated July 16, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID F. HALLIBUR- TON, of Rutherford Station, in the county of. Gibson and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Gar-Loaders; and I do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to -the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view.
This invention has relation to portable carloaders; and consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the frame, adjustable stay-rods, and the adjustable loading devices, substantially as hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A designates a rectangular frame, composed of 'strong beams, united by mortise-and-tenon joints, and rendered firm by means of diagonal braces, B B. This frame is of an oblong shape, 7
and when in actual use stands on end, as shown in the drawing. To the upper part are hinged the stay-rods or braces 0, having their ends bent inwardly and hooks formed thereon for the purpose of being connected to the car or to some other object while the car is being loaded. From the sides of the uprights a axle arms 1) project, and are designed to receive wheels when the frame is turned over on its back for transportation. The frame may be drawn by means of the hinged stay-rods. Between the top and bottom of the frame is arranged a pivoted crane. E designates the Windlass of said crane, from whicha rope, F, is carried over a pulley, e, in the end of the horizontal arm G. On the shaft of said windlass is a large toothed wheel, H, engaging with and rotated by a pinion, I, to which is attached a crank, J. K designates a pivoted dog, which is used for preventing the pinion and Windlass from turning while the load is being taken from the rope. Upon the end of the latter is a hook, L, to be attached to whatever is to be lifted.
What I claim as new is The improved portable car-loader, consisting of the frame A having the axle-arms b orequivalents, hinged hooked-ended stay-rodsG, and pivoted crane D, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
'DAVID FLETCHER HALLIBURTON Witnesses:
