M. FRISBIE.
CRANE.
N0. 258,403. Patented May 23, 1882.
WITNESSES LNVEJVTO]:
.dttorneu 5 NTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARK FRISBIE, OF ORLAND, INDIANA.
CRANE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 258,403, dated May 23, 1882.
Application filed April 12, 1882. (No model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARK FRISBIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orland, in the county of Steuben and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cranes, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawing, and in which the figure illustrates a perspective view of myimproved crane and jack.
This invention enables the convenient raising and removal especially of boxes, barrels, and bags, or other weights, it also being adapted for usein butchering and it consists in the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth.
I To carry out my invention I employ, as observed by reference to the accompanying drawing, an upright post, A, mortised and braced into a foot or foundation, a.
B is a hand-lever, strapped, as at I), in arecess in the post A, to permit it to turn thereon, and pivoted to said strap to allow it also to be raised or lowered. It has a number of slots, 0, and apertures 0 near its pivoted end, said apertures extending horizontally through it and in aplane passing through said slots.
(J is a centrallypivoted lever, arranged to also turn upon the top of the upright or post A, and having a hook, eyebolt, or staple depending from one end, while its other end is jointed or connected to an upright rack, D. The lower end of the rack, which has a series of apertures, d, passes through and is capable of adjustment to anyone of the slots of the hand-lever B by the aid of a pin, 0. This arrangement enables the adjustment of the rack easily operated when a greater weight or heavier body is to be raised. The perforations in the rack permit the disposition of the free end of the lever O with relation to the height it is desired to elevate the weight or body.
E is a bail, pivoted upon the bolt or pivot connecting the hand-lever B to its strap passed around the post A, and hooked upon any one of the teeth of the rack or fulcrum D. The purpose of this bail is to efi'ect the immediate holding in its elevated position of the lever O and its weight to take the pressure ofi" the handlever B and allow it to be readily used to turn the beam or lever G for the removal of its weight to the desired point-as, for instance, in elevating heavy boxes, barrels, and bags of merchandise from the ground into a wagon,0r removing them from a wagon into the store, or from place to place in a store.
This device is also convenient for use in butchering.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The upright or post A, the hand-lever B, capable of turning upon the post, the lever C, also adapted to turnupon the post, the rackD and bail E, in combination, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The post A, having the levers B and 0 adapted to turn thereon, and one provided with adjusting slots and apertures, in combination with the rack D, provided with adjusting-apertures and the bail E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARK FRISBIE.
