PANTALOONS-PROTECTOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,475, dated December 4, 1894.

Be it known that I, THEOPHILE DAROOURL' I do hereby declare the following to be afull,

clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in pantaloons holders.

Theinvention will first be described in conneotion with the acco rnpanying drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings-Figure 1 1s a perspective view of a device embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are side and rear views showing the device in operation. Fig. 4 isa rear View with the plate detached, and Fig. 5 is a rear elevation of the traveling plate.

Referring to the drawings, A is a screw device from which projects an upward-extending guide rod B, provided with a head I) at its upper end and with a stop 2) near its lower end. In the form shown in the drawings the guide rod is preferably a piece of Wire bent into a loop to form the stop b and bent into a spiral at its upper end to form the head I).

G is a traveling device which in this case consists of a plate having a spring tongue 0 stamped up from the body of the plate, the spring tongue being bent to form an eye 0' through which the guide rod B extends.

The plate 0 is provided with means for securing it to" the interior of the pantaloons, in this case consisting of points c projecting from the plate 0 and arranged to pass through the cloth and to be bent down, thereby holding the plate to the cloth. It is obvious that the spring tongue will permit the plate to be removed from or applied to the guide rod as desired. 7

In using the device the screw, A, is fastened into the heel of the shoe, as shown in Fig. 2, and the plate 0 is fastened to the inside of the leg of the pantaloons at the rear by putting the pins 0 through the cloth from the inside, and then bending them down onto the outside of the cloth. The guide rod B may now be sprung under the spring tongue, 0 untilit restsunder the bend a. The traveling plate may then move up and down on. the guide rod E, between the stop b and the head I), but cannot come down below the said stop, and hence the pantaloons leg cannot come down below the heel of the shoe of the wearer, thus keeping the bottom of the pantaloons above the ground and preventing it from becoming frayed or soiled.

Since the traveling plate may move up and down between the stop I) and the head I], the pantaloonsare permitted sufficient freedom to allow for the motion of the wearer in walkeither the cloth or the holding device.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a pantaloons holding device, the combination, with a screw device adapted to be secured to the heel of the shoe, and a guide rod attached to the screw device. said rod havinga head and a stop, ofa traveling plate movable of the guide rod and means for securing said plate to the pantaloons, substantially as described.

2. In a garment protector of the class described, the combination, with a guide rod adapted to be secured at its lower end to the shoe, its upper free end being provided with a head, and a stop arranged between the fixed and free ends, of a traveling plate movable on the guide rod between the head and stop and removable from the guide rod, said travieling device having'a spring tongue to engage the guide rod and integral points arranged to be clamped to the pantaloons, as and for the purposes described.
