To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JQHN ASHTON, acitizen of the United States, residing at Lawrence, in
the county of Essex and ,State of Massachusetts, haveinventeda new and useful Lock- 1nge, of which the following isa specificatron.
This invention relates tolock-hinges; aha
it has for its object to effect certain improvements in hinges of that class which are suitable for blinds, gates, doors, and other mov- 1n g objects and which not only provide for hinging such objects to their stationary caslngs or frames, but at the same time provide means for locking the objects in an open or closed position, thereby dispensing with supplemental fastenings. l
To this end the mainland primary object of the present invention is to simplify and render more eflficient hinges of thistype.
With this and other objects in view which 1 i will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the. same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.

Referringto the accompanying drawings, A represents 'a portion of a window casing and B a portion of a blind hinged thereto, and as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawings the blind B, is to behinged to thecasing by an-upper hinge of the ordinary construction,
and the lower lock hinge D, constructed in accordance with the present invention, but it will of course be understood that the position of these hinges may be reversed, or the lower lock hinge attached to any other moving object than a window blind or shutter B. The lock hinge D, comprises the separate hinge members or leaves E and F, which are adapted to be interlocked tosecure the proper hinging of the moving object to its casing or frame. The hinge member or leaf E is proguide groove K.

which is disposed longitudinally of. the pintle arm-and is adapted to automatically drop into engagement with the transverse locking groove J, when brought into alignment therewith at either side of the pintle opening, I.
To open or close the blind B, or other moving objectto-Whidh' the member or leaf F, is attached, it is simply necessary to lift the object so as to raise the locking lug Q, out of the groove J. This locking lug willthe-m ings, the pintle arm N, may be further pro-.
vided with a horizontal guard flange R, of a length and width slightly greater than that of the transverse locking groove J, so that when the hinge member or leaf F, is in either locked position, the said flange will cover the locking groove to keep the same free from snow and ice, and other deposits which would interfere with the Working'of the hinge.
' It will of course be understood that the attachment of the members or leaves E, and F, may he such that one member will be attached to the stationary object and the other to a moving object as may be required by the particular occasion, and I will further have it understood that changes in the form, propor tion and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any ofthe advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention,what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is--' 1. In a lock hinge, the combination of the hinge leaf or member provided with a base plate and an integral horizontal leaf arm having a pintle opening near its outer end, a transverse lock groove formed in the top face thereof and extending from edge to edge, said lock groove intersecting the pintle opening at right angles to the disposition of the leaf 'ar'm',-a"'vertical guide 'roeve'K; formed in one ing lip L, projected beyond the outer edge of said-transverse lock groove, and the other hinge leaf or member provided with an integral horizontal pintle arm provided at its under side with an integral narrowed lug or rib Q, adapted to ride freely on the flat top bearing lip L, and into engagement with the transverse lock groove at either side of the pintle opening, said pintle arm being also provided at its outer extremity with a right angularly disposed pintle turning in said pintle opening and having near its lower end a retaining stud P, adapted to pass through said vertical guide opening and to work under the leaf arm of the other member, said stud being disposed out ofalignment with the vertical guide groove when the locking lug or rib is in either of its locked positions, substantially as set fort'h.
2. In a lock hinge the combination of the hinge leaf having a pintle opening near its outer end and a transverse lock groove, and the other hinge leaf having an integral pintle arm provided with an integral pintle engaging Said pintle opening, an integral locking lug adapted. to engage said locking groove, and an integral horizontal guard flange extended beyond the ends and sides of the pintle arm and of a length and width exceeding the length and width of the transverse locking groove to completely cover the same when the hinge leaves are locked togethensubstantiall y as set forth.
