Description
'(NO ModeL) 0. E. HOBBS SWING.
No. 52 ,151. Patented Sept. 18. 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARENCE E. HOBBS, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
SWING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,151, dated September 18, 1894.
Application filed May 2,1994. Serial No. 509,799. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, CLARENCE E. HOBBS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in thecounty of Milwaukee, and in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention has for its object to combine a swing and teetering apparatus; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 represents an elevation of my combined swing and teetering apparatus partly in section on line 1-1 of the succeeding figure, and Fig. 2, a section on line 22 of the preceding figure.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents a support in the form of a beam mounted on legs B to thereby form a trestle. Depending from the beam are vertical arms 0 provided with lateral branches D to which the hangers E for a swing-body F are pivotally connected. The support, hangers and swing-body are an assemblage of parts in common use, consequently no claim is made for the same except so far as they combine with other parts hereinafter specified to form a combined swing and teetering apparatus.
In carrying out my invention I employ links G to unite the hangers E in pairs at opposite sides of the body F and pivotally connected to the links central of the same is a bar H having an aperture midway of its length, this aperture being'loosely engaged by a pin 1 that depends from the center of a frame J pivotally connected to the vertical arms 0 of the support A below the lateral branches D to which the swing-body hangers are joined. I
Pivoted to the ends of the frame J so as to extend therefrom in opposite directions are hangers K and the upper ends of said hangers are in pivotal connection with cross-heads L Patent, is I 1. A swing of that class involving a suitable support, hangers pivotally connected to the support and a body likewise connected to the hangers; in combination with links connecting the hangers in pairs on opposite sides of the body, a pivotal bar joining the links, a frame in rocking connection with the support and link-connecting bar, seats having hangers pivotally connected to the frame, and an equalizing mechanism connecting the latter hangers and said support above said frame, substantially as set forth.
2. A swing of that class involving a suitable support, hangers pivotally connected to the support and a bodylikewise connected to the hangers; in combination with links connecting the hangers in pairs on opposite sides of the body, abar in pivotal connection with the links central of thesame, a frame in like connection with the support and provided with a depending pin engaging an aperture in said bar, other hangers pivoted to the ends of the frame to extend in opposite directions therefrom, seats fast to the lower ends of these hangers, and an equalizing bar that is trunnioned on said support and pivotally united to the upper ends of the latter hangers, substantially as set forth. h
In testimony'that I- claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
, CLARENCE E. HOBBS.
