Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrroii.
MADISON L. REYNOLDS, OF FLINT, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN CIRCULAR SWINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,141, dated March 3, 1874; application filed September 27, 187:).
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAnrsoN LUNEY REY- NOLDS, of Flint, in the county of Pike and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Rotary Swing, of which the following is a specification:
My invention is an improvement in the class of rotary swings in l which the hinged levers, to whose outer ends the seats or other sup ports are connected, are provided with friction-rollers, which travel on a circular undulatin g track, thereby causing the seats to rise and fall as they revolve around a common center. The improvement relates to the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described, whereby a simple, light, inexpensive, yet strong, durable, and efficientlyoperating swing is produced.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my i1nproved rotary swing, and Fig. 2 is a plan view.
A is the vertical revolving center-post, B, the radial arms; 0, the seats supported and revolved by said arms. These arms I joint at D, so they can swing up and down, and mount them, by a roller, E, for each, on the circular undulating track F, so that the seats will have an up-and-down motion, something like the motion of a galloping horse, at the same time that they revolve. The center-post is extended sufficiently below the top of the platform to have ample bearing-surtace to insure its upright position without the use of a support at the top. The track F is formed of boiler-plate iron, or other metal of suitable thickness, and supported upon vertical posts set in the base-piece of the frame.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The improved portable rotary swing formed of the swinging seats 0, the arms B, pivoted at D to center-post A, and provided with rollers E, the circular undulating track F, arranged between the seats and pivot-post, and sup ported on posts set in the base-frame, all constructed and arrangedas shown and described.
M. L. REYNOLDS. YVitnesses:
D. DEAN, Enw. DOONY.
