TRACE-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION fOIming part 0f Letters Patent N0. 525,973, dated. September 11, 1894. Application iiled March 27, 1894:. Serial No. 505,255. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, LnBBEUs L; BOOTH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Anthony, in the county of Fremont and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Buckles and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled-in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The obj ect of the invention is the provision of a harness buckle, especially adapted to be applied to traces, and which will obviate the perforating of the same, usually required to receive the tongue or studs of such buckles as ordinarily constructed.
A further object of the invention is the construction of the buckle which can be used either on the right or left hand side as desired, thereby requiring no special provision of right and left buckles as ordinarily devised.
The invention consists, essentially, of a frame or plate, and means for clamping said plate against one face of the frame to confine and secure the trace in the required position.
The invention also consists of anovel construction and peculiar combination of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
'In the annexed drawingsz-Figure l, is a longitudinal section of the trace buckle embodying the essential principles of the invention. Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the buckle frame. Fig. 3, is a view of the inner side of the clamp plate.
The buckle frame A is provided at its opposite ends with loops a, and the end bars B, thereof have parallel ribs b, which eo-operate with a corresponding rib e on the clamp E, to bite into the trace O, and secure the latter in place. Cross bars f, are located opposite the end bars B, and between the said cross bars f and the end bars of the loops a are provided cross bars g, the latter beinglocated intermediate of the cross bars f, and the outer end bars of the said loops a. The side bars H, yof the buckle frame have slots h, in coincident relation through which passes the back band strap to support the' buckle at the required elevation.
The clamp plate E, is of approximately the same size as the buckle frame A, and has end ribs i which touch the outer side of the eX- treme ribs b. The ribs z' and e, are in parallel relation, and act in opposition to the ribs b,
to bite into the trace, and secure the same in the located position.
A series of bolts J, pass transversely through the buckle frame and other corresponding openings in the clamp frame, and are provided With thumb nuts j on their threaded ends, by means of which the clamp plate is moved and held against the buckle frame with sufficient pressure to secure the trace in the located position. The ends of the bolts J, are counter-sunk in the buckle frame so as to come flush with the inner side thereof.
By the form of buckle herein described, it will be seen that it is not necessary to perforate the trace in the ordinary manner in order to secure the said buckle in the required position thereon. The breeching strap and the back band strap Will be attached to the buckle frame in the ordinary manner as is obvious to one skilled in the art.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is In a trace-buckle, a frame having parallel ribs on one face and opposite transverse side openings, said frame having ribs at its oppo site ends and inner and intermediate crossbars, a clamp plate having corresponding ribs on the side opposite the ribbed face of the buckle frame and bolts provided with thumb nuts for clamping the said plate against the buckle frame, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
