BED BRAGE.
Patented Aug. 28,1894.
WZZJVESSE'S M WW w NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM HENRY MOFFITT, OF LEXINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA.
BED-BRACE,
$PECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,226, dated August 28,1 894. Application filed March 31, 1894. Serial No. 505,846- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM HENRY Mon- FIT'I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lexington, in the county of Davidson and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Braces; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in bed braces, and the object of my invention is the provision of a device of this character which will be superior to others in point of simplicity, durability and inexpensiveness and which will be thoroughly efficient and practical.
The invention consists of a bed brace or tightener embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts substantially as disclosed herein.
In order that the details of construction and the advantages arising therefrom may be understood and appreciated I have illustrated in the accompanying drawing a bed brace constructed according to my invention.
In the drawing is represented a plan view of the bed brace applied to a bed, the brace being on an enlarged scale.
Referring by letter to the drawing, A designates the end boards or pieces and B the side boards or pieces of abed frame in connection with which my brace is employed.
-My improved tightening or bracing device consists of the sleeve or ferrule 0, having the hooks D, at one end and the larger hooks or projections E, at the other end, and through the sleeve passes the adjusting bolt F, having the hooked end G, and receiving on the 40 threaded end H, the adjusting nut J, and the hook G and small hooks D engage the side tightening wire K, and the corner tightening wires L, as clearly shown.
The device is secured to'the frame of the bed as shown and when the adjusting nut is turned it causes the hooks which receive the wires to draw upon and tighten them and the projections or large extensions on the sleeve engage or bear upon the side tightening wire, as shown, and deflect it from a straight line and the tension is thus exerted evenly on all the wires and consequently the frame of the bed is braced and retained in afirm position.
I claim-- 1. In a bed brace, the combination with the side and corner bracing wires, of the sleeve having the hooks at one end to receive the corner wires, and the extensions at the other end for bearing upon the side wire, and the adjusting bolt in the sleeve having the hook to receive the corner and side wire.
2. In abed brace, the combination with the side and corner bracing wires, of the sleeve or p ferrule having the short hooked arms for engaging one of the corner wires, and the long arms having their free ends bifurcated and bearing upon the side wire, and the adjusting bolt having the hook at one end to receive the corner and side wire and having the nut on the other end bearing upon the sleeve and acting on all the wires, in the manner described. In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM HENRY MOFFITT. Witnesses:
Geo. W. WAUFCASILE, WM. J. BYERLY.
