Description
R. LEAVITT. EYELET FOR SKIRT SHORTENER.
No. 52,179. Patented Jan. 23, 1866.
Witn-esses- UNITED STATES RUFUS LEAVITT, OF MELROSE, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT-IN E YELETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent Nb. 52,}79, dated January 23, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Burns LEAVITT, 0t Melrose, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful kindof Eyelets, which are particularly designed to be used in the method of shortening-skirts, for which Letters Patent were granted .to me January 26, 1864, No. 41,382, and for other similar purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,
otherform of eyelet, also made of wire, bent up and coiled in the manner shown; and Fig. 5 is an eyelet made solid, of any suitable material.
The distinguishing characteristic of this eyeletis that the axis of the eye is parallel to the surface upon which it is fastened and the 'pla-ne'ot' the eye is made transverse to and projects outward from the same surface, the purpose of this mode of construction being to enable the cord thatwurksthrrmghtheeye to run freely without undue friction from either the eye or the surface to which it is attached. The eyelet is also provided with two other eyes, or other suitable means by which they are sewedon or otherwise attached to the garment in the. same manner that common hooks and eyes are attached.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The eyelet herein-described as a new manufacture;
RUFUS LEAVlTT.
Witnesses H. E. SNOW, WM. O. HIBBARD.
Executed at Boston this 18th day of March,
