Be it known `that I, WORLEY LEAs, of Kokomo, Howard county, and State of .Indian-a, have invented af' new and Improved Belt- Uoupling; and I'do hereby declare. that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, lwhich will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference 'being had to the accompanying drawings," forming part of this specication, in Which- Figure l is a transverse section ot' my invention, taken in the line a; te, Fig'. 3; Fig. 2, a longitudinal-section ot' the saine,taken in the line y y, Fig. 3; Fig. 3, an. outer or face viewot'thesam'e.

This invention relates to a new and iinproved coupling for connecting together the ends. of mac'hine-helting; and it consists in constructing the coupling of two parts, each part beingeomposed of a plate or strip ot`- metal or othersuitable material, bent at about the center to form two parallel parts, with a rounded or semi-cylindrical edge at the bend, said edges-being cut or having recesses formed in theln to leave projecting portions,
the projecting portion of one edge tltting in the recesses ot' the other edge, with -a pin or pintle passing through them, the Whole forming a joint or hinge, the two parts of which may be readily connected or disconnected, and one or -both parts detachedfrom the belt, so that the latter may be taken up or shortened whenever required, and the coupling applied again with thegreatest facility.

The projecting portions d of one part of the coupling are tted in the recesses c of the other, and the vtwo parts are connected to 'gether by a pin or pintle, C, which passesV through ail of the projecting portions d otl both parts ofthe coupling, the pin or pintle U being secured in position by serewsc, which passinto its ends, tl1e heads of said screws preventing any longitudinal movement of the pin orpintle.
The two ,parts ot' the coupling are secured to the ends ot' the belt by means otl screws j' or rivets-g,'both of which are shown more particularly in Fi-g. 2. in case an idler or friction pulley is run onor applied to the belt the coupling will contorni to its `curvature as well as to that of the others.
The device may be constructed at a very moderate cost, and it will form a iirni connection for the ends of the beit, and a very'durable one.
