Be it known that I, SIGMUND PHILIPsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Packages; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,

clear, and exact description of the invention,

which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in cigar packages for containing a determined number of cigars, which are placed therein by the manufacturer who afxes the proper revenue stamp.

The object of the invention is to provide an improved cigar package of the above description, which'will comply with all the requirements of the revenue laws, to be retailed to purchasers, who destroy the stamp upon opening the package, the construction being such that the packages thus opened can be used as pocket cases for the protection of the cigars.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a view of a cigar package constructed in ,accordance with my invention, as prepared by the manufacturer and ready for sale. In the said drawings, the reference numerals 1 and 2 designate two cases, made of thin sheet-metal, papier mache, or other suitable material, closed at one end, and printed, stamped, or otherwise provided upon the outside with the brand and grade of the cigar, the manufacturer and such other matter as may be found desirable or necessary. As

will be noted one of these cases 2, contains six cigars and the other seven, and are such. sizes that one will telescope into the other.

The reference numeral 3, denotes a fiat spring secured to the interior of the case with its free end bearing upon the cigars contained therein.

The'manner of using the invention is as follows: The manufacturer places the requisite number of cigars in the cases, with the butts outermost, and then telescopes the ends of the cases so that one will overlap the other about one inch. Therevenue stamp4is then affixed by pasting it around the overlapping ends of the cases, securing it to both cases so Y that they cannot be detached from each other without destroying the stamp, and as such cases are about equal in length to an ordinary cigar, they `can be carried in the pocket and form a protector, thus preventing the cigars from being broken or injured. The object of the iiat spring is to hold the cigars tightly in the case, so that after one or more has been withdrawn for use, the remaining cigars will not wabble in the case.

Y The receptacle 2, is of greater width than receptacle 1, so as to overlap the mouth of the latter forming an annular shoulder or projection 5, so that when the revenue stamp is affixed, an offset will be formed at the point of overlapping, thus insuring that said stamp will be broken on a straight line when said receptacles are disengaged from each other.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim isrThe combination with the case or receptacle l made of thin sheet metal or the like and provided with agcurved iiat metal spring secured to the inner edge-wallnear its closed end and extending to quite near the open end of said case or receptacle l, of the case or receptacle 2 of slightly larger dimensions at its open end than case l, and having a curved metal spring 3 secured to the inner face of one of its edge-walls near the closed end of E case 2, and a revenue stamp 4 affixed by pasting it around the overlapping ends of the cases l and 2 securing it to both cases so that thelatter cannot be detached from each other without destroying the stamp which will be broken in a straight line so that the two cases when united may thereafter be used as an ordinary pocket cigar-case, as set forth.
