IRONING-TABLE,

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 520,183, dated May 22, 1 894.

Application filed December 16, 1893 Serial No. 493,824- (No model.)

To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Renovo, in the county of Clinton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My present invention relates to ironing tables and has for its object certain improvements in construction, which will be fully disclosed inthe following specification and claim.

In the accompanying drawings which form part of this specification Figure 1 represents a side elevation partly in section and shows two of the legs down in full lines and folded in dotted lines; Fig. 2, an inverted plan view, and Fig. 3 an end View.

Reference being had to the drawings and the letters thereon, A indicates a table top to which is hinged at the rear end a supplemental leaf ]3, constructed to fold upon the table top A, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 when not in use to support fiat-irons, and to be opened in the plane of the table top A when in use, as shown in full lines in the same figure. end of the table top are pivotally attached legs 0. D. project above the legs 0. 0. an inch or two and between the ends a c of the legs is secured a transverse bar E which is rigidly fixed between the legs and from the center of the bar E extends an arm F, which is comparatively short to render it stifi and form an effective brace to the table, and to prevent lateral movement of the table top upon-the brace the end of the arm F 1s bifurcated as shown at d and engages a rack To the under side of the rear e secured to the bottom of the table top by lateral flanges f, f. V 4 Y The rack is provided with several notches g by which the height of the table is regulated, and the sides of the bifurcated end of the arm F engage the sides of the rack as shown and thereby prevent the table top moving laterally on the arm. The arm F is of sufficient length to admit of a skirt, shirt or other like garment being drawn over the table top without interfering with the legs D. D. The leaf B when open is supported upon a bar it pivotally attached to the under side of the table top A, and the bar is connected to the arm F by a cord or chain 1' to cause the arm F to automatically draw the bar h out into position to support the leaf when the legs of the table are opened and spread into position to support the table. The cord or chainz' is adjusted to increase or diminish its length to operate the bar it according to the height of the table desired.

Across the bottom and on the rear end of the table top A is a cleat k in which is a recess Z in which the bar h is operated, and the bar is pivotally secured to the table by 'a pivot m which passes through the cleat k and I the bar.

The table constructed as described is firm on its legs, is not easily rocked and forms a ready and convenient means for its purpose.

Having thus fully described my invention whatI claim is An ironing-boardhaving a supplemental leaf at its rear end and a pivoted bar to support saidleaf, legs pivotally connected to the rear end of said board and extending forward to or near the end thereof, legs pivotally attached to the foregoing legs and projecting above the same and provided with a transverse bar and. an arm extending from said bar to the bottom of the board and connected to the support of the supplemental leaf.
