UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES L. HOUGHTON, OF NORTHAMPTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO- JOHN L. WOODRUFF, OF WESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
POCKET PACKAGE OF TOILET-PAPER.
SPEOIFIGATIONforming part of Letters Patent No. 520,055, dated May 22, 1894.
. ages of Toilet-Paper, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in packages of toilet paper and the main object of my improvement is to provideacheap and convenient package adapted to be carried in ones pocket for individual use.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my pocket toilet paper package with its cover opened. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank for the cover of said package, and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of one end of said package in a somewhat modified form, a portion of the cover being broken away.
Adesignatesa pack of toilet paper out 1nto sheets rather smaller than the size generally in use so that the same may be conveniently carried in ones pocket. This pack shouldbe cheaply held together in some way and provided with a protecting cover of thicker and stronger material than the toilet paperitself. I prefer to make said cover from a blank of the form shown in Fig. 2, and to fold the same on lines indicated by the broken lines 4 in said figure whereby the cover B is provided with an outer flap 5, a notched flap' 6, and a tuck flap 7, the junction between the notched flap 6 and body of the cover B extending over one edge of the pack A while the junction between the tuck flap 7 and notched flap 6 extends over a part of the opposite edge and the junction between the outer flap 5 and body of the cover B covers the entire edge of the pack together with that portion which is folded over adjacent to the tuck flap. Thus it will be seen that the cover has a double fold at one edge of the pack and a single fold on the opposite edge, the flaps 5 and 7 both being folded over one edge of the pack and when folded lying on opposite sides thereof. I provide the corners near that edge which has the single fold with end stays of anysdesired form as for example the ties 8 to prevent the pack A from working endwise out of the cover while the edge folds hold it from working laterally. Byturningbacktheouter flap 5 the pack A is exposed at two corners as shown in Fig. 1.to permit the sheets in the pack to be withdrawn one by one. The outer flap will be closed as shown in Fig. 3 when desired to pocket the complete package.
If desired instead of forming the end stays of a tie asshown in Fig. 1. the paper may be slit near the edges of the notched flap 6 as at the broken lines 9, Fig. 2, and then folded over the edge of the package with its end tucked or laid under the cover, thus forming the end stay 10 as shown in Fig. 3.
By my invention I form a cheap and convenient pocket package of toilet paper inclosed within a protecting cover for carrying in ones pocket while the sheets of paper confined within said cover are readily accessible when wanted.
I claim as my invention- 1. A toilet paper package consisting of the pack A, a cover folded over each side edge, the flap 6 of said cover being notched or recessed at its corners, and provided at its middle portion with the tuck flap 7 substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
2. A toilet paper package consisting of the pack A, a cover wrapped around the side edges of said pack and provided with the outer flap 5, the flap 6, and tuck flap 7, said outer flap and tuck flap being both folded over the same edge of said pack and when folded lyingon opposite sides thereof, and end stays for confining the paper near the corners of the complete package, substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
