ments in Opening Devices for Wrapped lid Boxes, of which tion.
The present invention relates to improvethe following is a specificaments in opening devices for wrapped boxes,
and particularly boxes such as are used for cigarettes, articles of food, medicinal preparations, etc, where such .boxes are hermetically sealed to protect the contents by being wrapped and sealed in paraflined paper or the like. An objectdolyf the invention is to provide means surroun g the box and applied to the wrapper in such manner as. to enable the wrapper to be readily and conveniently removed from the package- As is well known such packages wrapped in the usual way, because of the nature of the material forming the wrapper and the secure manner in which the same is pasted prove w very hard to open, requiring either scratching with the finger nail, which is very disagreeable to some persons, and would be impossible should the person be wearing gloves without the removal of the gloves, or the use of a knife or other sharp instrument, which is .not always convenient. Another object is-to provide such means which will not add materially to the cost of the Wrapper and will be comparatively simple to aply. p With these and other objects in view my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings and will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto and finally pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a wrapped package in the form of a cigarette box embodying this invention.
Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal vertical section thereof,
Fig. 3 represents a .transverse' section of a fragment thereof.
Similar reference numbers indicate cor responding parts in the diflerent figures.
The invention is illustrated as applied to a box for containing cigarettes; The box body is provided with an upright flange 11 which is flush with the inner face of the Specification of Letters Yatent.

box'and forms a recess at the outer face thereof about equal to one half the depth of the box. The lid is provided with a downright flange 21, which shuts over the upright flange ll of the body flush with the outer face of said body and leaves a space between itself and said upright flange 11. A label is disposed on one end of the box on the outer face-thereof and covers the joint between the flange 21 of the box cover and the body of thebox. A wrapper 4O composed of parafiin paper or other suitable material, incloses the box. This wrap- 'per has an inner folded flap 41 which extends downward from the top of the box over the joint between the flange 11 and the body 10 and an outer folded flap 42 which ;extends upward from the bottom of the box and shuts over the flap 41 and extends above the joint between the lid and body of the box. A revenue stamp is pasted to the front of the box on the outside of the wrapper and covers the joint between the lid and body of the box.
A band is disposed between the flanges 11 and 21 of the body and lid respectively and covers the joint between them 'alon one end of the box, along the front thereo and half way along the opposite end of the box; thence it is passed downward between the inner folded'flap 41 and the body of the box, thence mpward between the inner flap 41 and the outer flap 42 and has an extension 61 projecting'above the upper edge of the outer flap 42 at one end of the box as shown in Fig. 1'.
In the use of this device for opening the box, the projecting tab 61 of the band 60 is grasped and pulled and said band is drawn and the end flaps 41 and 42 are torn open, thence the wrapper is severed along the joint of the box body and lid from one end ofthe box to the other, across the A ing the upright flange of said body, a wrapper inclosing said members, and a band disposed between said flanges and provided with a. downward extension between the body of the box and the. inner flap of the wrapper, an upward extension between the inner and outerflaps of the wrapper and a tab projecting above said outer flap.
2. A wrapped package comprising a box body having an upright flange, a, cover therefor having a downright flange inclosing the upright flange of said body, a wrapper inclosing said.-members, a label over said wrapper at one end of said package, a stamp over said wrapper across the joint between said cover and body,
and a band disposed between said flanges along the label end of thepackage, along the stamp side thereof and along a portion of the opposite end thereof, said band being provided at the last named end with a downward extension between the body of the box and the inner flap of the wrapper, an upward extension between the inner and outer flaps of the wrapper and a tab projecting above said outer flap.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
