EDWVARD DENIS, OF GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,838, dated May 15, 1894.
Applicationfiled December 8,1893. Serial No.493,123- (No model.)
.To MZ wi'wm it may cor warn.-
Be it'known that I, EDWARD DENIS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Green- Bay, in the county of Brown and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. a
This invention relates to toys and has for its object to provide both a sounding and a rebounding toy combined, which will serve as a source of considerable amusement.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of the construction and arrangement of the several parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed. The drawing illustrates. a perspective view of a toy embodying the invention.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a strip or handle of suitable material, having a transverse slot, 2, extending through the same, near one end. On the said strip or handle, is mounted a support, 3, to which is attached a bellfll, and in advance of said bell is a fulcrum or support ,5, in which is journaled an arm, 6, having a hammer, 7, at its rear end, in such position as to strike the bell, and a loop, 8, at its opposite or front end, to which is attached a rubber or other elastic band or strap, 9, which passes through the I slot 2, in the strip or handle 1, and has a return ball, 10, secured to the free end thereof. Onthe said strap or band, above the slot, 2, is located a bufier, 11, which acts as a stop and limits the downward movement of that part of the strap or band above the said strip or handle and also produces a sudden jerking movement on the arm carrying the hammer, to thereby cause the latter to strike the bell.
In operation the strip or handled, is taken in the hand and the return bell held in midair and impelled downwardlyand retracted to thereby not only produce considerable amusement and entertainment, but on which downward motion the arm containing the hammer is caused to strike the bell, as previonsly set forth.
It will be understood that many minor changes in the operation and details of the construction can be made and substituted for those shown and described, without in the least departing from the nature and spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, wha is claimed as new is The herein described toy, consisting of a strip or handle, with an opening therethrough, near one end thereof, a bell mounted on said strip or handle, a fulcrumed arm, having a hammer to strike the bell and an elastic band or strap passing through the said opening and attached at its upper end to the said arm and having on its lower end a return ball, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. l
EDWARD DENIS.
