SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,477, dated May 8, 1894. Application filed December 11, 1893- Serial No. 493,391. (No model.)

To aZZ whom it may concern: 1 3'e it known that I, OATHARINE MoNEIL, a c tizen of the United States, residin'gin the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in N ecktie-Fasteners; and I hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the same. My invention relates toa device for secur- 1ng scarfs and neckties to prevent their'becoining easily detached from the collar button of the wearer after being secured.

It consists in certain details of construction, which will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanyin gdrawings,in which- Figure 1 isa view of my necktie fastener showing the spring locking pin released.

' Fig. 2 shows the pin caught and secured.

Fig. 3 shows the manner of securingit on the shank of the button. Fig. 4c is abottom edge view showing it between the coils and locked.

The object of my invention is to provide a spring locking pin attachment whereby the necktle is held to the-button, and is prevented from becoming disengaged or thrown out of place by accident.

After being bent to form the coilB, one end of the wire extends across the bottom-of the yoke A, extending beyond the coil 13', and it is pointed so as to form a pin which is passed through the necktie or other device to be fastened. The coil or loop B is made open at the bottom by separating the sides a little, so that the'shank of the pin 0 will be pressed up into this-loop byits own elasticity and that of the curve or coil B from which it springs. Passing beyond the loop B the wire extends a short distance, as shown at D, and then is turned into one or more coils E from which it passes across the yoke A, as shown at F, and has a loop formed at the end which clasps the side of the yoke A opposite to the coil from which this'arm extends, so that when the arm is in place, it extends across the yoke, and is connected bythe loop with the farther side as shown.

When the pin has been introduced through the necktie, the shank is allowed to rise into the coil B by its elasticity and the point of the pin which is slightly curved as shown, passes behind the extension D which lies between the coils B and E. This looks the point of the pin and preventsits becoming accidentally disengaged. The elasticity of the coil E is such that the arm or extension F is normally forced up into the curvature a at the top of the yoke. When, therefore, it is desired to secure the necktie or scarf upon the collar button, it is first necessary to press the arm F down until it extends across the lower part of the yoke A, and it is held there while the upper part a is hooked over the button. The arm F being then released will be forced up by its own elasticity until it strikes the bottom of the neck of the button, and the latter is held between this arm at the bottom and the curvature a at the top which makes it impossible to remove the fastening from the button until the arm F is again pressed down sutficiently to allow the yoke to be unhooked from the button. may be used either upon the front to secure the scarf or necktie to the frontcollar button, or itv may be attached to the rear portion where it passes behind the neck and attaches This construction that portion to the rear collarbutton so as to prevent its rising out of place or becoming disengaged. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A scarf or necktie fastener consisting of a yoke, the upper part or bight of which is adapted to fit over the neck of the collar button, coils formed at the lower ends of the yoke, from one of which a pin extends across the bottom of the yoke, while the other one has its turns separated at the bottom to admit the pointed pin and form a holder therefor, an extension from this coil outwardly,behind which the point of the pin is locked when itis in position, and means for clamping the collar button substantially as herein described.

2. Ascarf or necktie fastener consisting of a yoke, the upper end off which forms a bight adapted to fit over the neck of the collar button, coils at the lower ends of the sides of the a yoke, from one ofwhich a pin extends across the lower part of the yoke, while the turns of theother are separated to admit the point of the pin, an extension exterior to the second coil, a spring arm extending from the outer en of said extension across the yoke and haying a loop'slidable upon theopposite side of the yoke whereby the arm is forced up against the bottom of the collar button by its elasticity, and the device locked thereto,substantially as herein described.
