Description
ITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. CASPER AND TITUS S. DARLING, OF CONEWANGO, NEW YORK.
CLOTH ES-DRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 519,378, datedMay 8, 1894.
Application filed March 2,1894. Serial No. 602,113. (No model.)
.To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLEs F. CASPER and TITUS S. DARLING, citizens of the United make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the 1etters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and usefulimprovements in olothes-driers or reels, and it has for its object to improve upon this class of devices, and to provide a clothes reel the arms of which are constructed of hollow metallic tubes which may be quickly attached to a swiveled casting at the upper end of the supporting post. a
The invention has for a further object the provision of means whereby the clothes lines may be readily tightened or relaxed simultaneously and without the necessity of removing the reel from the supporting post.
To these ends and to such others asthe invention may pertain the same consists in the peculiar construction and in the novel arrangement, combination and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described,
shown in the accompanying drawings, and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, and in which drawlugs- Figure 1, is a plan view of a portion of the reel, showing its connection with the supporting post, portions being broken away. Fig. 2, is a side elevation with parts in section, of a portion of the reel. Fig. 3, is an enlarged detail in perspective of the casting to which the tubular arms are attached.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the supporting post, and B the reel consisting essenigallDy of the inclined arms 0, C and lines E, is a casting, having a central opening E to receive the vertical rod or pivot E* at the upper end of the supporting post. This casting is provided with a series of short upwardly inclined arms F, F, which arms are cast integral with the body portion of the casting, and over these arms are passed the open ends of the tubular arms 0 of the reel, as shown.
In order to hold the arms securely in place upon the casting arms, set screws G, are provided. By this arrangement it will be seen that the arms may be adjusted within certain prescribed limits.
The lines D, D, are passed loosely through holes a, a in the arms 0, G, and have their ends attached securely to the arm 0, which arm C, is provided with swiveled connection with the casting E, whereby the said arm may be rotated upon loosening the set-screw G,
and by this rotation the lines will be wound upon the arm, thus tightening or loosening all of the lines upon the reel simultaneously, as may be required.
The device is simple and cheap of construction, and both durable and efficient in use.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination, the casting E having central aperture and upwardly and outwardly inclined integral arms, the tubular line supports carried by said arms, and the set screws for adjusting the supports upon the arms, substantially as described and for the purpose specified. 7
2. In a clothes drier, in combination with the supporting post, of the casting swiveled at the upper end of the post, the line supports 0, 0, consisting of hollow metallic tubes carried by arms upon the casting and having openings at a for the passage of the lines, and the line support 0 having swiveled connection with the casting, substantially as shown and described and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES F. CASPER.
TITUS'S. DARLING.
, Witnesses: ANSON B. ARCHER, LoUIsH. MYERS.
