To all whom it may concern.-

Bejt known that I, BAMFORD ELLIOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle Tool-Bags; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which, in connection with the drawings makmg a part of this specification, will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same.

My invention relates to bicycle tool bags or cases, made out. of leather, and adapted to hold a Wrench, an' oil can, and a pneumatic pump, and to be attached to the frame of the bicycle.

The object of myinvention is to improve upon the construction of bicycle tool bags or cases, as now ordinarily made, and more particularly to improve upon the construction of the two closed ends of the bag, and to provide a bicycle tool bag, of square shape in cross section in which the closed ends are made fiat, square, and solid, and permanently closed, and of two thicknesses of the leather or material of which the bag is made. portions of the material forming theclosed ends of the bag are riveted together, doing away with any stitching at the ends, which is l able to rip out. By myimproved construction of the closed ends of a bicycle tool bag, Iam enabled to make the bag much cheaper, and to provide solid, square, permanently closed ends, of double thickness.

It will be understood, that bicycle tool bags are made in two parts, like what are termed telescope bags, one part telescopes into the other part,- which forms the exterior body of the case, in the ordinary way. V

Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a side view of a bicycle tool bag, embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is one end, looking in the direction of arrow a, Fig. 1. In the accompanying drawings, 1 is the outside portion of the bag, preferably made of leather, and of square shape in cross section, and provided with straps 2, and buckles 3, secured thereto in the ordinary way, for attaching the bag to the bicycle frame.

4 is the inside, or removable portion of the bag, which is adapted to telescope into the outside portion 1, and is provided with a strap 5, secured on theouter end thereof by rivets 8. Said strap 5 furnishes means for drawing the part 4 out of the bag 1, and also for holding the same therein, by securing the strap 5 to a buckle 5 on the bag 1, all in the ordinary way.

I will now proceed to describe my improvement, which as before stated, relates to the construction of the closed ends of the bag or case. Both ends are made in the same manner, so that a description of one. end

applies equally well to the other end. The f closed ends of the case are made by having the leather, or other material of which the bag is made, longer than the length of the finished bag, and cuttingor slittingthe leather at one end, in the direction of the length of the bag, so as to form four flaps, each of which is preferably of a length equal to half the diameter of the case, these flaps are bent inwardly, so as to extend in a plane substantially at right angles to the length of the ease, and two of them, as 6, form the inner portion of the end, and the other two, as 7, form the outer portion of the end. The flaps 6 and 7 are preferably made of such a length that their ends will meet and butt against each other, so as I to make a substantially tight joint, as shown in the drawings. The flaps 6 and 7 are secured together by rivets 8, or otherwise. By means of the two pair of flaps 6 and 7, forming the ends of the bag, I am enabled to make a solid, square, flat end, of two thicknesses of the leather. The closed ends of the case are made integral with the body portion of the case, instead of separate therefrom, asheretofore, thus adding to the strength of the case, and also to the attract iveness thereof, and at the same time saving the amount of material used, and reducing materially the cost of bag or case.

It will be understood, that the details of construction of my improved bicycle tool bag or case, maybe varied some from what is shown and described, if desired.

I have shown in the drawings, and described above, my improvements applied to the ordinary telescopic tool bag for bicycles, in which one part shuts into the other; but my improvements may be equally well applied to the ordinary bicycle tool bag made in one part, or which is not telescopic, the same being provided with a flap cover; and my improvements may be applied to other bags or cases, in which it is desired to have a solid flat end, permanently closed.

Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. As an improved article of manufacture, a bicycle tool bag made in two parts, one part adapted to shut into the other, and each part having a closed end made integral therewith, and consisting of two pairs of flaps bent over at right angles to the body portion of the bag, with the ends of each pair of flaps meeting and butting against each other, to make a square, flat end, of two thicknesses of the material, said thicknesses secured together by rivets, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a bicycle tool bag made in two parts,

and square in cross section, with one part adapted to shut into the other part, the comandbutting against each other, of rivets 8 for permanently securing the two pairs of flapstogether, substantially as shown and described.

3. As an improved article of manufacture,

a bicycle tool bag, having a closed end made integral therewith, and consisting of two pairs of flaps bent over at right angles to the body portion of the bag, with the ends of each pair of flaps butting, to make a flat end, of two thicknesses of material, said thicknesses secured together by rivets, substantially as shown and described.

In a bag or case, the combination with the body of the bag, having a permanently closed end, consisting of two pairs of flaps bent over at right angles to the body portion of the bag, with the ends of each pair of flaps butting, of rivets for securing the two pairs of flaps together, substantially as set forth.
