I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

PORTABLE AND ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT kFOR HOSENOZZLES.\\`
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 518,986, dated May 1, 18'94.
Application iiled November 2,1893. Serial No. 489,891. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WESLEY A. GAIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Medicine Lodge, in the county of Barbour and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Support for Hose-Nozzles, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and durable article of manufacture adapted to be placed in the ground at any place desired to support a hose nozzle at various angles and in various vertical planes, at the pleasure of the operator. v
My invention consists in the device coustructed and adapted to be operated as here- Inat'ter set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a rod or Wire having three lateral bends adapted to admit a hose or nozzle. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the complete device. Fig. 3 is a top view of the same, and dotted lines therein indicate how the hose may be turned in different directions without detaching it from the support. Fig. 4 is a perspective view.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the reference letter A esignates the upright p ortion of the holder 1 ade complete from a single metal rod or Wire with the lower end preferably sharpened to be readily pressed into the ground.
Nos. l, 2, and 3, are loopsI formed at suitable distances apart and adapted in size and'- shape and inclination and position to admit and retain a hose or hosey nozzle therein. Preferably these lateral bends or loops are inclined relative to the rod or wire. That portion of the device above the loop No. lis bent into triangular or arched shape in such a manner that the length containing the loops Nos. l and 2 will be in a pendent position and the open loops adapted to admit and retain a hose nozzle at dierent angles relative to the loop No. l as required to distribute water over areas of different extent without moving the device. It is obvious that any number of these loops may be used without departing from the spirit of my invention.
hose passed through the loop No. 1 and the t nozzle placed in either of the loops No.2 and No. 3 at pleasure to direct water at dierent angles of elevation. To change theincline of the stream and to' throw water in different directions the nozzle is moved from one of said loops to the other, and to adj ust the nozzle horizontally the supportand hose and nozzle are jointly moved by simply turning the snpport upon its pivotal location in the ground.
It is obvious that the simple, cheap, strong, and durable, portable and adjustable device thus constructed, from a single piece of wire or metal rod, by means ofr suitable tools or Inachinery, can be advantageously used for directing and distributing water in gardens and in lawns and much of the time and labor and annoyances incident to the operation of a hose and nozzle avoided.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States therel. As a new article o f manufacture, a hose and nozzle supporter comprising a single piece of wire or metal rod, having the one end adapted to be placed in the ground, a loop nearl its upper portion adapted to admit and retain a hose and its top portion arched and two or more loops and the pendant of the arch adapted to admit and retain a nozzle as shown and described and to operate in the manner set forth for the purposes stated.
2. An improved hose supporter formed of a single piece of wire or metal rod having its lower end adapted to be pressed into the ground and having the loops No. l, No. 2, and No. 3 formed in its upper end portion and the upper end portion arched, substantially in the manner shown and described, for the purposes stated.
