Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 17, 1917.
Application filed May 24, 1916. Serial No. 99,584.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BURTON E. HANEY, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Medford, in the county of Jackson and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Lawn-Hose Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to hose holders, and aims to provide a novel and improved device for holding a lawn or garden hose whereby the water can be directed in the direction desired, the present device being extremely simple and inexpensive in construction, being readily formed from a rod or equivalent stock, and being convenient, practical and eflicient in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the con1- bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accon1 panying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device as in use.

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a vertical rod 1, which is pro vided between its ends with a single coil or loop 2 defining the downwardly projecting prong 3 below the loop 2 and adapted to be thrust or forced into the ground for supportingrthe rod in an upright or inclined position. he loop 2 extends through a complete circle about a substantially horizontal axis with the vertical portions of the rod extending upwardly and downwardly from the ends of said loop, The prong 3 is olfset to one side of the bod) portion of the rod 1, and the loop 2 serves as a stop to limit the movement of the prong 3 into the ground. The loop 2 provides a throat or recess 4 between the upper end of the prong 3 and the lower end ofjhe body portion of the rod 1, which is adapted to snugly receive and hold a hose 5, whereby the nozzle 6 will be hell in an inclined position, as clearly illustrtted in Fig. 1. The hose will be held tightly by the end portions of the loop 2, the rod being resilient so that the loop can be sprung slightly for receiving the hose in an effective manner.
The upper end of the rod 1 is provided with an angularly extending handle 7 whereby the rod can be conveniently forced into and lifted out of the ground.
The handle 7 is provided with a bent back portion 8, whereby the handle is of loop-shape, and the rod has a portion 9 depending from the portion 8 along the body portion of the rod. The lower end of the portion 9 has a hook 10 for supporting an annular sprinl:ling head 11 of a hose 12, or
the hook 10 may be used to support other sprinkling hes ds or nozzles.
Fig. 3 illustrates a modification. In this form, the rod L has the loop 2 forming the prong 3 and hose holding portion 4:, the
same as with 1he first form, and the upper end of the rot, 1' has an angularly extending handle 7, but the parts 8, 9 and 10 are eliminated. The modified form is designed especially for holding the hose 5 as illus trated in Fig. 1.
The present device provides a convenient and desirable article of the nature indicated, the prong of the rod being readily forced into the ground, so that the hose can be held in the desired manner. The device can be manufaztured cheaply, and fulfils its ofiice in a desirable manner.
Having thts described the invention, what is claimed aS new is 1. A hose hulder comprising an upright rod having a aingle loop between its. ends extending thrc ugh a complete circle about a substantially horizontal axis, said rod having vertical p)rtions projecting upwardly and downwardly from the ends of the loop, the downwardly projecting portion providing a ground e itering prong below the loop and offset to one side of the upwardly projecting portion of the rod, the end portions of the loop bring adapted to receive and clamp a hose.
2. A hose holder embodying an upright rod having a ground entering prong at its lower end and an angularly extending handle at its upper end, said handle having a bent back portion, said bent back portion having a depending portion extendalong the body portion of the rod, and the depending portion having a hook at its lower end.
