To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH HERBERT RUFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hollywood, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in N ozzle-I-Iolders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention is an improved hose nozzle holder for use in holding the nozzle of a hose employed for sprinkling lawns and for other similar purposes and consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hose nozzle holder embodying my improvements showing the same in use; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the same.

My improved hose nozzle holder is made from a single piece of spring rod of steel or other suitable material. The said rod is bent at a suitable distance from its upper end to form spring coils 1, from which extends a substantially horizontal holding arm 2 and a vertical standard 3. The holding arm has its outer end down-curved and then bent reversely to form a nozzle holding loop 4, the upper end of which is open as at 5. The standard 3 is bent at a suitable distance from its upper end to form a clamping arm 6 which comprises a downwardly curved loop formed of the two members 7-8 and a bend 9 which forms a continuation of the inner end of the member 8 and passes around the inner end of the member 7 to secure the inner ends of said members together.

In order to use my improved hose nozzle holder the lower portion of the standard 3 thereof is forced downwardly into the ground to cause the clamp arm 6 to bear on the hose a, the hose nozzle 6 is placed in the loop 4 which projects from one side of the plane of the standard, while the clamping arm 6'projects from the opposite side thereof. The hose is then adjusted as required to cause the tension thereof to hold the nozzle in the desired position, and the standard 3 is pressed deeper into the ground to cause the clamping arm 6 to bear on the hose and hold the hose in such adjusted position. The supporting arm 2 being provided with spring coils, co-acts with the hose in causing the nozzle to'be set at any desired inclination, as will be understood. It will also be understood that the nozzle may be turned in any desired direction, simply by turning the holder, since the standard, the lower portion of which is embedded in the ground, forms a pivot and enables the holder as well as the nozzle end of the hose to be readily turned.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without re quiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of constructlon may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A hose nozzle holder comprising a pivot standard adapted to be thrust into the ground, a nozzle holding arm projecting from the upper end of said standard at an angle thereto and a hose clamping arm projecting from said standard at a suitable distance from the upper end thereof to bear on the upper side of the hose and press the hose against the ground, substantially as described.

2. The herein described hose nozzle holder comprising a standard, a hose clamping arm projecting laterally from one side thereof to bear on the upper side of the hose and press the hose against the ground, spring coils at the upper end of the standard, an arm eX- tending from said spring coils at an angle to the said standard and a nozzle holding loop at the outer end of said spring supported arm, substantially as described.
