ATTACH M ENT FOR RADIATORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 518,801, dated April 24, 1894. Application filed September 7, 1893. Serial No. 485,087. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Attachments for Ra- 1diators, of which the following is a specificaion.
Myinvention relates to improvements in radiators and attachments therefor, and particularly to means for supporting radiators on the heating pipes with which they are connected, so that the radiators will follow all the expansions and contractions of the pipe, and there will be no strain on nipples and branches, which connect the radiators with the main pipe.
In present practice, the radiator or coil, is supported on the floor or walls of the building, and therefore, in the case particularly, of long lines of main rising pipe, as used in modern high buildings, the expansions and contractions of the main line of pipe, put great strain on the branches which lead to the radiators,frequentlybreakingthe said branches, and changing their alignment. I overcome this difficulty by supporting the radiatorson the main pipes by platforms, which follow all the movements of the main pipe. Thus the radiator moves within the limits of the expansions and contractions of the main pipe, and there is no strain on the branches, and no tendency to disturb the alignment of the branches. I also prefer to form the supporting device as a safe, which'will protect the floors and ceilings from damage in case of.

The radiator B is set freely on the platform E, so that the radiator can slide freely over the surface of the platform, so as to compensate for its own expansions and contractions;
and this freedom of movement facilitates the coupling of the radiator to the steam pipe A.
In place of providing the platform E with only one branch, I may form it with two, one to either side of the pipe A, and set a radiator on each, their weight then balancing. Such an arrangement, indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, is especially useful in-the case of windows separated bya pier. The pipe A'will be run up the pier, and the radiators will stand under each window.
.Now, having described my improvement, I claim as my invention- I 1. The combination with a steam rising line, of a clamp fixed thereon and moving therewith, a platform secured to said clamp, and
a radiator set freely on said platform so as to be. adapted to move laterally over the surface thereof and also being operatively connected with the said steam rising line, substantially as and for the purpose described.
