HARRY E. CAMPBELL, OF NEW YORK, N Y.
SUPPORT FOR STEAM-RADIATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1918.
Application filed April 6, 1917. Serial No. 160,263.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Supports for Steam-Radiators, ofwhich the following is a specification.
The invention relates to supports for steam radiators, such as are used in buildings for heating purposes. Such radiators usually rest upon the floor, so that access under them for cleaning purposes or for fitting carpets is diflicult. Furthermore, it is .often desirable to remove the room radiators,
especially in hotels, for purposes of repair, or during the summer months. My present invention consists in the combination with a metal window sill of means directly secured to said sill, whereby a radiator may be suspended from said sill and be held in place thereby. I here illustrate my invention in a sectional radiator, wherein the upper transverse bolt which connects the radiator sections together is simply placed in hooks on the ends of the horizontal arms of brackets which are connected to the metal window sill. After the steam or hot water connections are separated, the radiator can be very easily lifted from or suspended ,on said bracket hooks.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1' is a front elevation of a radiator supported from the window sill, in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a section on the line :12, m of Fig. 1. Fig- 3 isa similar section of' a modified construction.
Similar letters of reference indicate lik parts.
A is the inner portion of a metal window sill supported on the building masonry, and having a downwardly turned flange B. On the inner face of said flange are detachably secured by screws C a number of metalbrackets D. The upper end of each bracket is preferably seated in a recess in flange B; the body portion extends vertically downward, and has a projection E which bears against the wall. Below said body portion the bracket is bent inwardly, forming a horizontal arm F, in the "end of which is a. hook G.
The radiator H may be of any known construction, formed in sections, as I, united by a cross bolt J. Said radiator is suspended from the brackets D, the hooks G of which enter between the sections I and receive the,
cross bolt J. Instead of attaching the bracket to the outside of the sill, as shown in Fig. 1, I may seat the vertical or body portion thereof in a recess in the masonry inside of the sill flange B, and at the upper end of said body portion provide a flange K, also seated in a recess in said masonry, but attached to the sill by the screw C. It is to be noted that in both the forms shown respectively in Figs. 2 and 3, the bracket is secured to the sill, and not to the masonry,
so that the strain due to the weight and 'downwardly depending portions bearing against said wall, inwardly extending arms projecting, from said downwardly depending portions, and means on said arms for suspending a radiator therefrom.
4. A metal window sill, metal brackets secured to said sill and having inwardly extending arms, and means on said arms for suspending aradiator therefrom.
5. A metal window sill, metal brackets secured to said sill and having inwardly extending arms, and suspension hooks on the ends of said arms adapted detachably to receive a radiator.
6. A metal window sill, metal brackets bent to form vertical and horizontal arms, the vertical arms of said brackets being secured to said sill and having projections bearing on the wall below said sill, the said horizontal bracket arms having hooks on their ends adapted to receive a radiator.
In testimony whereof I have afl'ixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY E. CAMPBELL.
