BUSHING FOR BAR RELS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 518,194, dated April 10, 1894;

Application filed February 10, 1893. Serial No. 461,7 2- (No model.)

To all whom it" may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT KUEHNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a cer- 5 tain new and useful Improvement in Linings or Bushings for the Orifices of Barrels, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying 1o drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention relates to a bushing or lining for the bung hole or orifice of barrels, kegs, &c.; the object of the present improvement being to provide a simple, cheap and I 5 very durable lining or bushing for such uses capable of easy manufacture and application in place. I attain such objects by the construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a longitudinal section illustrating the application of my present invention. Fig. 2, is a perspective viewof the bushing or lining, detached from the barrel'head; and,

Fig. 3, a plan view of the under side of the lining or bushing.

Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts in the different views.

The presentimproved liningor bushing consists of an annular body portion 1, having a marginal outer flange or rim 2, and a series of triangular points or ends 3, that are adapted to be bent or turned against the inner surface of the barrel, &c., and be secured thereto by nails or screws; a like attachment being 3 5 made to the outer surface of the barrel, the, by means of nails or screws passing through the marginal outer rim 2. By this improved construction a very strong and durable attachment of the lining or bushing in place is effected, the intention being to insert my im- 40 proved bushing in place in the head of a beer barrel, keg, &c., during the manufacture of the same and before such head is put in place. .My improved bushing is intended to be made of a ductile or flexible material, preference being given to raw-hide, as the same affords a Very lasting wearing surface for the alternate reception of the ordinary bung, and

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A lining or bushing for the orifice of beer' barrels and the like formed of flexible rawhide, and having an annular body 1, an outer marginal flange 2, and interior triangular points 3, adapted to be bent at right angles to the main body, and secured to the inner surface of the barrel, by nails driven through such triangular points into the wood of the barrel, substantially as set forth.
