CHECK -BOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 517,323, dated March 2'7, 1894. Application filed June 1,1893. Serial No. 476,268. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IsAAo B. ALTER, of Rossville, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Check-Book, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description,
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved check book, which is sim-- ple and durable in construction, and arranged to permit of conveniently removing the checks and of replacing thegcheck tab when used up,
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improvement with the casing open, and parts of the pocket removed. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the guideway for the tab 5 and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the tab carrier.
The improved check book is provided with a suitably constructed case A, preferably made of leather, with a pocket B adapted to be closed at its mouth by a flap O. In the pocket B, and at the inside thereof, is secured a guide-way D, preferably made of sheet metal, and adapted to be engaged by a slide E, formed on the back of the carrier E, made in the form of a plate and adapted to receive the tab F carrying the checks. The carrier E is preferably formed at its upper end with points E adapted to be bent over and hooked into the top edge of the check tab F, as is plainly illustrated in Fig. l, the lower end of the said carrier E being bent over to form a hook E adapted to engage the back of the tab in place on the carrier. tached to the carrier inthe manner described, and at the time the carrier is slid outside of the pocket along the guide-way D, the casing then being in an open position. When at tached to the carrier the latter with the tab can be readily slid into the pocket to prevent the check from being soiled when not in' use.
For using the device the operator opens the casing or book, then slides the carrier out onto the open flap 0, whereby the tab is fully exposed to permit of filling out the top check in the usual manner, and then tearing the same 0E for further use. The carrier with the tab is then moved back into the pocket.
The tab F is at- It will also be seen that when all the checks of the tab have been used up, then the carrier E is moved out on the guide-wayD, and the stiff back of the tab is then detached from the carrier and a new tab is attached to the latter.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-*- 1. A check book, comprising a casing having a pocket, and a carrier constructed to receive and support a check tab, and connected to the casing within the pocket to slide in and out of the same, substantially as described.
2. A check book, comprising a casing having a pocket and provided with a guide way on the interior of the pocket, and a check tab carrier engaging and sliding in the said guide way, substantially as described.
3. A check book comprising a casing provided with a pocket having a fixed guideway, a carrier formed with a slide adapted to engage the said guide-way, and a check tab secured on the said carrier, substantially as shown and described.
4. A check book provided with a check tab carrier, formed of a plate having a slide and points or hooks for engagement with the said tab, substantially as shown and described.
