FINGER-REST FOR PEN HOLDERS.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MAX GoETzE, of Sturgis, in the county of Meade and State of South Dakota, have invented a new and Improved Finger-Rest for Penholders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention has more particularly for its objects the facilitating of writing, the relieving of pain or fatigue in the hand when doing much writing, the making it convenient for the writer to turn over leaves or look over papers without releasing hold of the penholder, and the teaching of children in school to hold the penholder in a correct position.

To these and other ends, the invention consists in a penholder attachment, constituting a spring finger rest, of special construction, substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 represents a view in perspective of the finger-rest applied to a penholder in the hand of a penman, as when writing. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the finger-rest detached; and Fig. 3 is an end view of the same.

The attachment is made up in part of a loop piece A preferably of spring metal and split or left open at its top, and in part of a flat spring B running through said loop-piece at its bottom and riveted or fastened thereto, at which point and at the back end of the spring B are secured, on the under side of said loop-piece and spring, elastic scroll clips forming eyes I) 17, adapted to receive the penholder G snugly through them, and preferably made yielding to closely hug the penholder and to adapt the attachment to diflerent sized penholdersu The free end of the spring B projects considerably in front of the finger loop A, so as to form an elastic rest for the finger which is projected through the looppiece when holding the penholder to write with, as shown in Fig. 1. In this way, a finger-rest attachment to a penholder is provided that will enable apenman to Write with more case, insure a correct position for the penholder, and otherwise fulfill the several objects, hereinbefore stated, sought to be attained by the device.

It will be understood that while I have shown and described the device as applied in connection with a penholder, it may be utilized as a rest for lead pencils.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a finger rest for pen holders, comprising a finger loop, and elastic finger rest projecting forwardly from the finger rest, and eyes for receiving a pen holder or the like, as set forth.

2. As an improved article of manufacture, a finger rest for pen holders, consisting of an open finger loop, a fiat spring secured at about its middle to the said loop, its forwardly projecting end forming an elastic finger rest, and yielding eyes, one secured to the under side of the finger loop and the other to the rear end of the flat spring, as specified.
